Rotterdam, Netherlands | Eating Herring at Markthal Market 🐟
Markthal Market is located in the heart of Rotterdam, at Laurens Plaza. It's flanked by rivers and railways, with a church ⛪️ nearby. After tidying up my things, I walked along the city roads and couldn't help but feel excited as I approached the market. I've seen many projects by MVRDV, and to think that one day I'd be able to step inside, and this bustling market is just a common place for locals in Rotterdam. It was surprisingly clean inside, with many shops and quite a few really nice, distinctive stores haha😂 and they were quite frequent too. You can buy herring sandwiches here. I tried one, and it was actually quite tasty, not fishy at all, with a fishy flavor and no strange smell. Walking out of the market, the sound of bells rang from the next door, and there was the church. At that moment, there was a sudden illusion of tradition and modernity intertwining. Rotterdam was almost razed to the ground during the war, and the new Rotterdam is so modern and designed, but the past is not forgotten, and amidst the hustle and bustle, there is a new beginning. #Netherlands #Rotterdam #RotterdamMarket #Markthal #MVRDV
