Rotterdam's Art Depot: An Unconventional Art Experience 🎨🌐
📍DEPOT in Rotterdam is like no other art venue; it looks like a giant metallic hotpot from the outside, haha! 🍲 Once inside, you'll find interwoven staircases, and entry is by reservation only. You can book a Guided Tour, which allows you into specific storage areas. For the tour, you're given lab-like attire, making it feel like you're part of a mysterious ritual. But you can also just walk into the exhibition area like my friends and I did, which means no need for uniform clothing. 🧪🥼 The traditional paintings are displayed in a unique way, with transparent layers embedded in wooden bases hung from the ceiling, allowing you to see both the front and back of the artwork. This method reveals more about lesser-known artists who often reuse canvases, providing insights beyond what you'd get at a conventional art museum. The new media installations are also fascinating, with many changing the way you experience the exhibition. For example, some are placed on the floor, and I immediately lay down to interact with them. 🌟As you move along the interwoven staircases, many exhibits are placed alongside them or on the building's facade, not only changing the way you view the art but also establishing a relationship with the gallery itself, integrating the design of the space into the exhibits. It's a harmonious yet striking blend. At the top level, you'll find a sky garden and café, offering a panoramic view of Rotterdam's cityscape, with many iconic landmarks visible, saving you the trouble of walking everywhere! 🌆 I really enjoyed the experience. After seeing too many traditional exhibitions, it's refreshing to have such visual冲突 and physical impulses. I ended up happily buying souvenirs from the gift shop, which were much cheaper than those in Paris, haha! 🛍️ 🎫: Tickets can be purchased on the official website, adult tickets are 20€. #Netherlands #GreatPlacesInNetherlands #Art #Rotterdam #ContemporaryArt #ExhibitionHopping
