San Francisco | Birdsong – A Two-Star Forest Feast 🌿🍽️
It’s been a while since I dined at Birdsong, but this place left a lasting impression! Among California’s Michelin-starred restaurants (mostly concentrated in SF and LA), Birdsong stands out — and it’s clear why it holds two stars. 🌲 What makes it memorable: 1️⃣ Unique Style – From decor to dish design, they bring the “forest” right to your table. Visually rustic and wild, yet flavors remain refined — a beautiful contrast done well. 2️⃣ Exceptional Service – We were an hour late due to insane traffic, but they still seated us warmly and served the full tasting menu without rush. (A certain two-star in Brooklyn, NYC, could learn from this.) 🍴 Standout Dishes: Seaweed Mussel Shrimp Broth: Deep umami, smoked mussels, aromatic and rich. Oyster with Foam: Delicate and fresh beneath a light foam. Trout Three Ways: Presented creatively with edible flowers — very “forest-core.” Ash-Roasted Black Cod: Intensely smoky, like eating by a woodland fire.🎉 Sea Urchin Sphere: Tasty, better than Mélisse’s, though not as breathtaking as César’s. Cornbread with Caviar: Generous caviar topping, flavor was pleasant but safe. Quail with Sides: Felt like a rustic picnic — delicious and subtly reminiscent of Chicago’s Smyth.✨ Aged Lamb: Charred, fragrant, deeply satisfying. Chamomile Sorbet & Cheesecake: Light, tangy, refreshing finish.👍 Birdsong may not be the most mind-blowing two-star in flavor, but its strong theme, immersive atmosphere, and thoughtful service make it truly special. Perfect for anyone who loves nature-inspired dining. #BirdsongSF #MichelinTwoStar #ForestDining #SanFranciscoEats #TastingMenu #NatureOnAPlate #FineDining #SFMichelin #UniqueDining #CaliforniaCuisine 🌲✨
