San Francisco | Z&Y – A Michelin

📍 606 Jackson St, San Francisco, CA 94133 🍽️ Z & Y Peking Duck A quick note: there are two Z&Y restaurants — this one specializes in Peking duck, while the one across the street focuses on Sichuan cuisine. I’d heard so much about their duck, and finally got to try it! The owner and head chef is a true Beijinger who previously cooked for state banquets 🎩👨‍🍳. Rumor has it this place aims to rival Beijing’s famous Si Ji Min Fu — and whether in ambiance or food quality, it truly stands out. As someone surrounded by Cantonese food in SF, finding such a thoughtful, authentic Peking duck spot moved me deeply 🥹. 🦆 Peking Duck A genuinely delicious duck — but what won me over were the details: Carved fresh by a dedicated duck master Cucumber slices peeled and deseeded Scallions selected from Japanese markets — fragrant, not spicy Duck meat kept warm over a candle-powered warmer Pancakes steamed atop a self-heating pouch A half duck came with just the right number of pancakes — no waste, no shortage. 🧑‍🍳 Chef’s Special Recommendations Knowing I’m from Shanghai, the owner kindly suggested milder dishes: Scallion Tofu 🥒 Arranged like a Shanghainese malantou with dried tofu — brought a wave of nostalgia! Crispy tofu skin topped with scallions, kale, and soft tofu — delicate and flavorful. Crab Meat & Fish Maw Soup 🦀🍲 A clear upgrade from the usual duck bone soup — truly banquet-level. Real crab meat and tender fish maw made this deeply aromatic and elegant. Fresh Meat Pastry 🥮 Essentially a xianrou yuebing (savory mooncake). Do Beijingers eat this too? Either way — flaky, savory, and expertly made. Beijing-Style Noodles with Gravy 🍜 A homestyle noodle dish with braised pork belly, mushrooms, and daylily flowers. Chewy noodles, fragrant broth — hearty and satisfying. Lamb Spine Hot Pot 🍖🔥 Perfect for the drizzly, chilly SF winter! The lamb was fall-off-the-bone tender and richly spiced. Cherry Yam & Hawthorn Apple Bun 🍒🍎 A refreshing, slightly sweet start to the meal. The cherry yam stood out — though I’ve noticed these two dishes popping up everywhere lately! Honey-Glazed Crispy Shrimp 🍤 The owner offered me one to try — peeled and ready to eat in one bite. A thoughtful, delicious detail. 💵 Around $50 per person A place I’ll definitely return to — not just for the food, but for the soul and care behind every dish. #BayAreaLife #BayAreaEats #BayAreaWeekend #PekingDuck #SanFranciscoFood #SFRestaurants #SFBayArea #ChineseBanquet #ComfortFood #MichelinEats
