Went to this cozy izakaya in San Mateo downtown with friends 🏮 Izakaya Ginji Even on a weeknight, it was bustling enough that without a reservation, we were seated at the bar — but it turned out to be a fun spot to watch the chefs in action 👨 Tried the kimchi pork udon for the first time — a bit on the salty side, but the flavor was surprisingly interesting, like a Korean-Japanese fusion twist 🍜 The tofu okonomiyaki was delicious (and low-key reminded me of the infinite tofu challenges in a certain game… you know the one 😂) For yakitori: Chicken skewers were just okay 🐔 Loved the beef and quail egg skewers 🐮 The mushrooms were super juicy too 🍄 We wanted to order the beef tongue & grilled tofu, but it was already sold out 😢 Ended trying the beef tongue curry instead (which, for some reason, was only on the digital menu — not the paper one!).
