Save Half a Bottle of Sunscreen | The Best Itinerary for Page’s Top At
Page, a desert town that emerged in 1957 during the construction of the Glen Canyon Dam, has transformed from a workers' settlement into a famous tourist destination. But let’s be real—Page is scorching hot during the day. Most guides emphasize sun protection at Horseshoe Bend, but the truth is, nowhere in Page is safe from the brutal sun and UV rays. In May this year, I visited four major hotspots: Antelope Canyon, Horseshoe Bend, Glen Canyon Dam, and Lake Powell. Based on my experience, here’s a sun-smart route that maximizes sightseeing while minimizing sun exposure: 1️⃣ Morning: Glen Canyon Dam Start early while the sun is still mild. The walk from the parking lot to the viewpoint is short. After admiring the dam and the Colorado River, recharge with a snack—you’ll need energy for the day. 2️⃣ Noon: Antelope Canyon Whether you choose Upper, Lower, or Antelope Canyon X, midday light creates the best effects (especially those famous light beams). This is the only time slot you should book. 3️⃣ Afternoon: Lake Powell After hiking in Antelope Canyon, take a break by the lake. Relax in a shaded pavilion with an iced drink, or hop on a boat tour for a unique view of Horseshoe Bend from the water. 4️⃣ Evening: Horseshoe Bend It’s still warm, but far cooler than midday. The short hike leads to a breathtaking overlook—where everyone snaps their "picture of a lifetime" (seriously, the lighting is perfect). Pro Tip: There’s a Walmart near Horseshoe Bend—great for stocking up on road trip supplies.
