Shakespeare’s Secret Getaway Near Birmingham
This weekend, the weather was gloomy again. Time for another visit to a grand estate! This time, I headed to Charlecote Park in central England. This place is super close to 🌟Birmingham🌟 and Coventry. It’s not close to 🌟London, but it’s just over an hour from West London via the M40—a perfect spot for a day trip! The estate is under the National Trust, so members and those with tickets can enjoy it to the fullest! 📍 Shakespeare This house has an interesting story. Legend has it that young Shakespeare once came here to poach deer and got caught. Though there’s no solid evidence, he did later satirize the owner in one of his novels. Fun fact: Shakespeare’s birthplace isn’t far from here. 📍 Elizabeth I Queen Elizabeth I once stayed here for two nights. 📍 Same Family for 900 Years This estate has been owned by the same family for 900 years, and they still live here occasionally! 📍 Deer The park is home to many “fallow deer,” pronounced as “tián lù.” I always thought they were sika deer until a friend pointed out a new species in the comments. Nearby is the affluent spa town of Leamington Spa, which is also worth a visit! #uklife #ukestates #birminghamsurroundings #coventrysurroundings #deerenclosure #warwickuniversitysurroundings #londonweekend #londonweekendideas #nationaltrust #makemostofeveryweekend
