Craving sushi again? This time I tried the San Jose location of Kakuna – and wow, it did not disappoint! A friend told me it’s more spacious and has a great drink menu, so I grabbed two friends and headed over for a weekend feast 🎉. Though it’s American-style sushi, the portions are insanely generous – probably the heartiest I’ve seen in the Bay Area! The rolls are stuffed with sashimi, topped with more fish, and the rice is just a thin layer. Best part? Most rolls are around $15 – I almost want to ask the owner, “Are you sure you’re not losing money?!” 😂 🍱 Must-Try Picks: ✨ Omakase Box A gorgeous 9-piece sashimi box – the fish selection changes, and this time I even got a fresh oyster! 🦪 A squeeze of lemon made it perfect. My friends couldn’t believe how thick the slices were – each piece felt like a full bite! I even turned the roe portion into a mini donburi – so good! 🦞 Boujee Roll The priciest roll at $19.99 – and worth it! Lobster inside, topped with seared salmon and crispy fried lobster bits. Absolutely mind-blowing! 🏈 49ers Roll Our server’s favorite – a shrimp tempura roll topped with fresh sashimi. The combo of crispy and tender is unreal! 💘 Gaijin Roll Not sure why it’s called “lover” – but who cares when it’s this delicious? Salmon outside, tuna inside – no need to choose! 🐍 Black Mamba Roll Creative name for an eel roll – tender eel with a crispy center. Unique and tasty! 🥑 Veggie Options We tried Zesty and Herbivore – both with avocado and cucumber. One’s spicy, one’s savory. Fresh and light!
