Sri lanka travel diary:Day 1
🩷Negombo Central Fish Market Located near the vegetable market, it starts operating at 8 AM. You can observe the daily life of the people in Negombo and also purchase various types of seafood such as fish, shrimp, and crab. 🩷St. Mary’s Church Construction began in 1874 and took a total of 50 years to complete. It is a Gothic-style building with solemn and elegant decorations. The ceiling of the nave features solemn religious murals, and sunlight streams in through the stained glass windows, creating a sacred and beautiful atmosphere. There is also a slightly faded pink prayer house. Local residents often sit on the ground and sing hymns, with beautiful voices. The side aisles are very photogenic. 🩷St. Sebastian’s Church Laid the foundation on February 2, 1936, by the then Archbishop of Colombo, Peter Mark, and designed by Father G. Gannon. The dome features exquisite murals. 🩷Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage Established in 1975, it is one of the only two elephant orphanages left in the world. It mainly takes in homeless, severely injured, lost, war-injured, and sick baby elephants. The "orphanage" operates a unique elephant dung paper in Sri Lanka, which is made from 75% elephant dung and processed through special techniques. It is a national gift from Sri Lanka to world-renowned politicians. Every day from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM and 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM, elephants cross the street to bathe in the river. You can watch the elephants bathe while having lunch at the riverside restaurant. 🩷Simoya Nature Park A small and beautiful boutique guesthouse run by a Sri Lankan couple. Upon check-in, the hostess offers a cold towel with a faint floral scent and tangy passion fruit juice. The entire guesthouse is adorned with various fresh flowers, and the beds are decorated with fresh flowers and petals, along with atmospheric lights by the bedside, giving it a honeymoon hotel vibe. ✨The rooms are very clean and tidy, with well-thought-out design details. The breakfast is also very rich and delicious, featuring egg crepes, coconut rolls, various fruits, and papaya juice.
