Sri lanka trip--Colombo
šAs the largest city and commercial capital of Sri Lanka, as well as the center of politics, economy, culture, and transportation, Colombo undoubtedly holds an unshakable position. āāIndependence Square, much like Tiananmen Square, is the venue where Sri Lanka held its independence ceremony from Britain. The Independence Memorial Hall on the square is built in imitation of the royal audience hall from the Kandyan dynasty period, and the statue on the square is of Sri Lanka's first prime minister after independence. āāThe City Hall, known as Colombo's "Little White House," is a neoclassical building constructed by the British. It is located next to Independence Square. āāThe Bandaranaike International Conference Hall, a pristine octagonal building, is one of Colombo's iconic structures. It was built with aid from the Chinese government and is hailed as a "symbol of Sino-Sri Lankan friendship." For three decades, it has played a significant role in Sri Lankan life, often used for hosting international conferences. āāThe Dutch Colonial Museum, originally the official residence of the 17th-century Dutch governor, has served as a Catholic seminary, military hospital, police station, and post office. Now, the restored mansion has become an ancient garden courtyard. #The City Hall#Colombo#Dutch Colonial Museum#Independence Square#the Bandaranaike International Conference Hall#Sri lanka#Sri lanka trip#travel diary
