🧩 St. Andrew's Cathedral ❣️ Address: 11 St Andrew's Rd, Singapore 178959 📝 The original St. Andrew's Church was designed by Coleman and built between 1835 and 1836. The second St. Andrew's Church was designed by Thomson and built around 1842. To reduce costs, Indian convict labor was used, as was common with many buildings at the time. The foundation stone was laid by Bishop Daniel Wilson of Calcutta on March 4, 1856, the first service was held on October 1, 1861, and it was consecrated on January 25, 1862. In 1869, it was transferred from the Calcutta Diocese to the Diocese of Labuan and Sarawak. In 1870, the Dean consecrated it as the cathedral of the united diocese. 📝 Shortly before Singapore fell to Japan in 1942, the cathedral was used as a field hospital. In 2004, #National University of Singapore conducted an archaeological excavation in its courtyard.
