Surprise Japanese Temple | Engaku-ji 🌳
🌿✨Rainy days are perfect for strolling through temple gardens. Originally planning to visit Meigetsu-in, I stumbled upon Engaku-ji along the way. Watching the rain and enjoying the scenery, I found myself in a moment of tranquility. I really liked a phrase on the guide map: "We are born this way, we exist this way, and now we live in this world—this is the heart of Buddha." 🌿✨ If you plan to visit Kamakura, I highly recommend a visit to Engaku-ji. Its founder, the eminent monk Mugaku Sogen, came from Ningbo to Japan during the Song Dynasty, which makes it feel very familiar and close! 😂 🧘♀️ [A Brief History Lesson] Engaku-ji was established in 1282 by Hojo Tokimune to commemorate those who perished in the Mongol invasions. 🌿✨It is one of the head temples of the Rinzai Engaku-ji sect and is listed as a Japanese Heritage site. Together with Kencho-ji, it is one of the "Kamakura Five Mountains," representing the essence of Kamakura's Buddhist culture.📜 🙏 [Who is Enshrined Here?] The main Buddha enshrined is Shakyamuni Buddha. The temple does not enshrine any war criminals, so you can visit and take photos with peace of mind.📿 #Kamakura #JapaneseGarden 🌿✨
