Syracuse | How Could One Ever Grow Tired of Solitary Strolls?

While organizing my photo album, memories of this foreign journey came flooding back~ To every friend visiting Italy, I always say: "You must visit the small towns!" Italy's true soul resides in these quaint villages ✨ Syracuse remains my all-time favorite small town ❤️ Though big cities boast magnificent museums, Italy simply wasn't made for "blitzkrieg tourism" 🚷 Here, what matters most is mastering— "dolce far niente" (the sweetness of doing nothing) 🍯 🚶‍♀️ A Walker's Paradise Living in Ortigia's old town, You won't need a car at all 🚗 Everywhere's within a 20-minute walk, Each alleyway leads to the sea 🌊 Even when I received that "work permit not available" bad news, This place seemed to possess magic powers 💫 Letting me peacefully live each day, As if tomorrow didn't matter ☀️ 🍅 Morning Ritual: The Market I'd wander the market daily, Not necessarily to buy anything 🛒 But always finding warm connections— Like the enthusiastic auntie teaching me to use sun-dried tomatoes 🍅 Explaining the differences between tomato pastes... Are all Syracusans gourmets? 👨‍🍳 They recite recipes like poetry, Know tomatoes like sommeliers know grapes 🍇 The fresh parsley the fishmonger gave me, Reminded me of the scallions we get with fish back home 🎣 ⏳ Where Time Stands Still The square where Malèna walked in "The Legend of the Beautiful Woman" 🎬 Century-old trees in the seaside park 🌳 The 90s-style amusement park 🎠 Most magically, The street musician my friend met in 2023 🎻 I encountered him again this year! As he played facing the sea, A group of schoolchildren on spring outing passed by 🎒 He suddenly struck up "Ciao Bella" 🎶 The kids started singing and dancing around him 💃 Italians really can spark joy anytime, anywhere 🔥 🍧 Hidden Delicacies Venture slightly off the tourist track to find: Authentic Sicilian arancini (rice balls) 🍘 Refreshing Sicilian granita (shaved ice) 🍧 Following Italian schoolchildren in line, I found an amazing gelato shop 🍦 Never expected my favorite would be walnut granita! Nutty yet surprisingly refreshing 🌰 The lemon and pomegranate flavors were divine too 🍋 All natural, no additives - so reassuring~ 📖 Simple Pleasures Grab some snacks, bring a bottle of wine 🍷 Sit by the sea reading while waiting for sunset 🌇 Isn't traveling just strolling through others' everyday lives? What I miss most now aren't the spectacular views, But those leisurely moments that made me sigh "How wonderful it is to be alive" 💖 #ItalyTravel 🇮🇹 #Sicily 🌋 #EuropeTravel ✈️
