🌲 Take a Deep Breath in Cuyahoga Valley
Day 4️⃣ Since you’re already in Cleveland, how can you miss Cuyahoga Valley National Park right next door? Honestly, opinions about this park are mixed online. Some say it’s more like a state park—just there to make up the numbers in the East—while others insist its autumn scenery is absolutely worth the trip. 🍂 Of course, everyone has their own definition of a national park. I visited in summer, so I can’t describe the fall colors firsthand. Compared to most national parks in the West, Cuyahoga Valley may seem less dramatic, but I still think it’s worth spending at least half a day here. 👍 Interestingly, most national parks in the Midwest and East don’t charge an entrance fee—and Cuyahoga Valley is no exception. Maybe that’s one reason I kinda like it! 😄 I’ve divided the park into three areas to make it easier to explore: North Section 🦫 The Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath Trail This trail actually starts in downtown Cleveland and stretches all the way to the southern part of the valley. The path is flat and easy—perfect for a relaxed hike or bike ride! 🚴♂️ Many visitors choose to bike sections of it. There’s a Canal Exploration Center along the way—a great starting point to decide your direction. Central Section 🦫 Blue Hen Falls One of the park’s iconic waterfalls! You can park at the Boston Mill Visitor Center and follow the Blue Hen Falls Trailhead. The round-trip hike is about 3 miles and not too challenging. 💧 🦫 Peninsula Depot A historic train station inside the park. You can take a scenic train ride 🚂—1.5 or 3 hours—to slowly enjoy the nature and culture of the valley. Tickets start at $18 for adults. Head to Lock 29—there’s plenty of parking nearby. South Section 🦫 Hunt House This area focuses more on local history and culture. The house displays records of early life in the valley. Nearby, you can also check out Beaver Marsh! 🦫📸 #CuyahogaValley #NationalPark #BreatheFreshAir #ForestTherapy #Cleveland #Ohio #BackToNature
