The Beekman Hotel in New York 🌟
The Beekman is a historic restoration and adaptive reuse project located at 5 Beekman Street in New York City. GKV Architects was commissioned to transform a historically significant commercial structure into a hotel and construct a modern 51-story, 68-unit residential tower on an adjacent plot. 🏙️ The first 10 floors of the tower are connected to the hotel, housing most of the hotel’s advanced heating, ventilation, and fire-suppression infrastructure. The upper floors of the tower are designed as residential apartments. 🏙️ The historic Temple Court Building, constructed in 1883, is New York’s first “fireproof” building and an early example of using brick and terra cotta in office buildings. 🌟 A key element of the hotel design is GKV Architects’ focus on preserving and restoring the historic and grand central atrium, the magnificent skylight, and its historic cast-iron railings, as well as the ancient wooden arched doorways. 🏰 Recently, I’ve been working on a European-style restoration project and it’s been quite a journey! Used to modern design, I always wanted to add some trendy elements, but the project kept getting more and more vintage. 🏙️ However, speaking of European vintage style, it really has a certain charm—luxurious, elegant, with every detail and material effect maximized. 🎨 #InteriorDesign#EuropeanVintageStyle 🏰
