The Design Museum
London is truly a city filled with museums, and most of them are free, making it a paradise for artists and designers. The Design Museum is definitely one of the must-visit spots for designers in London. π¨ Established in 1989, the Design Museum was the world's first museum dedicated to design. It primarily collects design works from the 19th century to the present, focusing on showcasing the evolution of contemporary design and its impact on modern society. The collection covers a wide range of design fields, including architecture, fashion, furniture, product design, graphic design, transportation, digital media, and more. It includes drawings, tools, prototypes, and documents. These pieces have helped shape modern society in the 21st century and present the development of design since the Industrial Revolution. ποΈ The founder of the Design Museum is British designer Terence Conran. Initially located in the Shad Thames area of London, the museum was housed in a former banana warehouse. In July 1989, it was officially opened by then-Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher. In November 2016, the Design Museum moved to its current location at the former Commonwealth Institute building on Kensington High Street, near the Science Museum, Natural History Museum, and the Victoria & Albert Museum. The new building has tripled the exhibition space compared to the old one. π #DesignExhibitions #MuseumExploration #DesignersInMuseums #TheArtOfDesign #MuseumRecommendations #ContemporaryMuseum #MuseumVisits #DesignMuseum
