Before my journey, I read "Carthage Must Be Destroyed" by British author Richard Miles and was deeply moved by the three Punic Wars. π π₯ This city, besieged for three years yet refusing to surrender, saw its women cutting their hair to make bowstrings, uniting the entire populace in resistance. In 146 BC, the city fell; out of 250,000 Carthaginians, only 50,000 were sold into slaveryβthe rest were mercilessly slaughtered. π«οΈ The ancient city was reduced to ashes by the Romans, disappearing like a mystery. π₯ Although rebuilt twice subsequently, Carthage could never regain its former glory. ποΈ π Today, thanks to archaeological excavations and research, we can only glimpse the splendor of Carthage in its heyday through the remaining ruins, tombs, stone tablets, mosaics, and unearthed artifacts. πΊ π When I finally stood amidst these ruins, all that remained of the once-grand ancient city was a skeletal framework, standing forlornly against a backdrop of desolation and gloom. Day and night, it gazes out over the Mediterranean, guarding the memories of its past glory... π #HumanisticDocumentary #Travel #WorldCulturalHeritage #HistoricalFootprints
