The Magritte Museum in Belgium
René Magritte is a renowned surrealist painter 🎨, and his most famous work that many people know is probably "The Son of Man" (1964), which Jay Chou also paid tribute to in his music video for "The Greatest Work of Art" 🎶. 🍎 The Magritte Museum in Brussels, Belgium, is said to be located in the house where Magritte once lived and worked 🏠. The museum has three floors, with exhibits arranged by time period. It not only displays his paintings but also his sketches, letters, photos, and some personal collections. Surrealism feels so out-of-this-world to me 🐎. Many of his works are hard to understand if you don't know the background. But when I learned that surrealism is an art movement emphasizing dreams and subconscious expression, I suddenly had a newfound respect for such works. Among all the surrealist painters, Magritte stands out because he only uses realistic depiction. Everything in his works is based on real-life scenes. Experts say that this realistic style contrasts sharply with the surreal elements in his works, enhancing the dreamlike and uncanny feeling. After learning more about Magritte, I love how his works explore perception and reality. The most famous example is the "The Treachery of Images" series. There are several paintings in the museum with the phrase "Ceci n'est pas une pipe" ("This is not a pipe") next to a pipe. It was a bit crowded, so I just quickly took a photo. Magritte uses these works to explore the relationship between perception and reality, and the role of language in this process. He wants to emphasize that the pipe in the painting is just an image, not a real object. So interesting! 🤔 When I was visiting the exhibition, I met an old lady who seemed to be an artist. She stood in front of the paintings, admiring them and sometimes saying "interesting." It was unexpectedly touching. 😥 #EuropeanTravel #EuropeanLife #Belgium #Brussels #ArtMuseum #RoyalMuseumofFineArts #MagritteMuseum #ArtExhibition #Surrealism #JayChou #TheGreatestWorkofArt #ExhibitionPhotography #RomanticLife #WeekendActivities #WeekendExhibition
