The Oldest Church in the U.S. and the Legend of the Seven Cities ⛪(2)
🏛️Upon arriving in northern New Mexico, the Spanish colonizers encountered a series of adobe villages. They referred to the farmers who settled in these desert oases as "Puebloans" (meaning "villagers") 🏠. 🌾When asked about the whereabouts of gold, the Puebloans cunningly directed the Spanish to the eastern plains of today's Colorado. While Colorado does indeed have gold mines, they are hidden deep within the Rocky Mountains. 🎨 🏛️The Spanish, following their usual modus operandi, founded the colonial city of Santa Fe at a local trading hub instead. And thus, the oldest church in the United States was born ⛪. 💒Interestingly, the Spanish absorbed the local Puebloans' adobe architectural style, which has evolved into the "Pueblo Revival Style" seen today. This distinctive style has become synonymous with Santa Fe and the entire state of New Mexico 🏛️. 🎨To be honest, it bears a slight resemblance to Kashgar in Xinjiang, China, albeit with a rougher, less refined appearance. #TravelSupportPlan #GreenIsLee #Travel #HistoricalArchitecture
