The Super Fun Former Capital of South Africa
Cape Town is beautifully distinct from other African countries. It’s like an African version of Sydney, with seas, mountains, and fine wines. By day, it’s as charming as a fairy tale; by night, it transforms into something akin to Gotham. From personal experience, solo walking on the main streets during the day is fine, but you must head back to your accommodation after sunset. 💗 Travel Experiences: ✅ Table Mountain/Lion’s Head: Hike up and take the cable car down – iconic landmarks of Cape Town. ✅ Citywalk: Explore the historical buildings in the city center. ✅ Seal Watching/Bays/Penguins/Cape of Good Hope: A day trip around the peninsula. ✅ Urban Sea Views: Take a bus tour from the Waterfront to Hout Bay; watch the sunset at Maiden's Cove. ✅ Wine Tasting: A day trip to taste wines at the three major wineries. ✅ Whale Watching: Go out to sea in Hermanus (best from June to November). 🚗 Transportation 1⃣️ Direct Bus from Namibia to Cape Town Intercape operates a direct bus service at 810 N$/around ¥310, with a 15-hour journey. Both the bus condition and road conditions are excellent. 2⃣️ Within the City: 👉🏻 Downtown – Bus: Get a myciti bus card. The 106/107 and 108/109 bus routes with sea views are super value – a must-ride! The card costs 40 R/around ¥16, with a minimum top-up of 20 R. Each ride costs 10.5 R/around ¥4.2. These buses go to the Waterfront, Hout Bay, Table Mountain, Camps Bay, etc. Check the map to find stops, and tap the card when getting on and off – much cheaper than the red tourist buses. 👉🏻 Outside Downtown – Group Tours: A vehicle is needed to visit wine estates, see penguins in Simon’s Town, enjoy the views at Chapman's Peak, and reach the Cape of Good Hope. For solo travelers, group tours are the most convenient – search for notes for detailed ways to play. 🏡 Accommodation: 👉🏻 Cape Town: 91 Loop Hostel Located in the CBD, close to major city attractions, and 700 meters from the bus and train station. A private single room costs 500 R/around ¥200 (breakfast not included), but the hostel’s ground-floor café offers free coffee and tea during breakfast hours. 🥘 Food & Drinks: 📍 Hudsons - The Burger Joint The burgers are really good. A burger + draft beer costs 200 R/around ¥80. The staff-recommended bacon jam burger is a bit sweet with bacon jam but very flavorful. If you prefer a savory taste, go for the basic one. 📍 Empire Asian Restaurant - Xingguo Restaurant The seafood fried vermicelli is delicious. A small portion costs 173 R/around ¥69 – it’s wok-fried, has plenty of ingredients, and uses Fujian-style thin vermicelli, with a familiar taste. The owner can exchange currency but at a rate of only 2.4 (real-time rate is 2.5) – it’s better to pay by card or withdraw cash from an ATM. 📍 Sushi Box The salmon crispy rolls cost 149 R/around ¥60 for ten pieces, suitable for those who like the fancy flavors of American-style sushi 🍣 – I think they’re tasty. The homemade lemon tea is a bit sweet at 39 R/around ¥16, and it’s less cost-effective than drinking alcohol. 📍 Yen’s Vietnamese Street Food The pho costs 110 R/around ¥44, which is reasonably priced, but the rice noodles are a bit hard and the soup base is on the sweet side. The chef isn’t Vietnamese, so the taste isn’t authentic. #SouthAfricaTravel #CapeTownTravel #SouthAfricaTourism #AfricaTravel #LesserKnownTravelDestinations
