The Tasting Menu Trap from Lysée(2)
Kouign Amann: The letdown of the entire tasting menu. The unremarkable puff pastry only manages to make the slightly refreshing texture greasy again, even more so than before the fruit tart. It was so unappealing that I only took one bite and left the rest untouched. 🎢🍃 The main pitfall of the tasting menu is the overwhelming richness by the end. If you're sharing with a larger group, say three or more people, this issue should be significantly mitigated. 🌺🌇Pairing it with hot tea might also help, though I can't comment on that since I didn't order it. However, the following criticisms can't be overlooked. Herbed Calamansi Juice: At $11 for calamansi juice, I couldn't taste any herbs at all. Upon savoring it, all I detected was the sweetness of white sugar. 🎢🍃 It was just sweet, and the texture was no different from the calamansi juice you'd find at the supermarket. It felt like a waste to spend $8 on a reusable glass bottle. Pear Sorbet: This seasonal ice cream should never make an appearance in any season again. 🌺🌇 The sorbet had no pear flavor at all; it tasted like a bland, water-soaked pear with a hint of alcoholic aftertaste. The pear slices and pear sauce used for decoration were utterly insincere and had nothing to do with being delicious. 🎢🍃 Another $8 down the drain, and I threw it in the trash after one bite. #NewYorkFoodExploration #NewYorkCuisine 🌟
