The Ultimate Dunedin Travel Guide - Super Delicious Brunch Spots
🇳🇿 Dunedin, one of the few places in New Zealand’s South Island brimming with cultural charm, is known as the "Edinburgh of the Southern Hemisphere." With its British-style architecture, vibrant street art, carefree crowds, soaring seagulls, churches at your back, and the ocean before your eyes, it’s a feast for the senses. 🗺️ One-Day Itinerary: Baldwin Street → Otago University → Dunedin Railway Station → The Octagon → First Church of Otago → Tunnel Beach👍 📍 Baldwin Street The world’s steepest street, lined with local homes. Walking up offers great views and makes for fantastic photos! You can also drive up for an exhilarating descent. 📍 Otago University (Otago Campus) New Zealand’s first university, featuring a iconic clock tower, classical beauty, cherry blossoms in spring, plump ducks, and studious vibes—it feels like stepping back into student life!😁 📍 Dunedin Railway Station A Flemish Renaissance-style station, ranked among the world’s top 200 must-see attractions. Though only a few scenic routes remain operational, the station’s grand exterior and opulent interior exude British cinematic charm. 📍 The Octagon The heart of Dunedin, this landmark square features monuments, sculptures, and fountains. Surrounded by cafés and restaurants, it’s where ducks stroll and seagulls sip water—perfect for soaking up the city’s lively yet relaxed atmosphere.❤️ 📍 First Church of Otago New Zealand’s first church and a Dunedin icon. This Gothic-style masterpiece is solemnly majestic outside and exquisitely decorated inside. 📍 Tunnel Beach Walkway A scenic coastal trail (about 50 mins round-trip by car). The hike is challenging, but the stunning beach at the end is worth it. Nearby Standfly Bay offers sightings of little blue penguins and seals! 🍴 Food Recommendations Brunch: The Good Earth (near the university) A super tasty brunch spot in a charming green building, bustling with students tackling assignments and professors chatting. Saying goodbye to the students brought back memories of my own study days!😘 Dinner: Plato (high-rated on Google) The oysters, though small, were sweet and fresh. The salmon came with a side of rice, and the medium-rare steak was slightly overdone.😊 🏠 Where to Stay Highland House Boutique Hotel One of my favorite hotels in NZ—it feels more like a cozy home! Packed with heating options (heated mattress, portable heaters, wall heaters, bathroom warm air), it’s the epitome of comfort. #NewZealandTravel #ExploreNZ #SouthIslandNZ #DunedinDiaries #HistoricCharm
