This tonkatsu place in Hawaii is worth knowing about~ 🍖

It's known as the "ultimate tonkatsu in Hawaii"! 🌟 We ordered the deluxe extra-large tonkatsu, oysters, and chicken nuggets, but the star of the show was definitely the tonkatsu (if you're dining in a small group, just order the pork cutlet). From the dipping sauce to the pork cutlet itself and the side dishes, everything is crafted to perfection. The sesame seeds in the dipping sauce are toasted and then ground by the customers themselves, which not only passes the time while waiting for the food but also gradually awakens the appetite with their aroma. 🌿 The pickles served as an appetizer look delicate, but they either taste too bland or too sour, which doesn't quite suit my personal taste. However, the side dishes for the fried items are cut into thin, hair-like strips, making them very sweet and refreshing. 🥒 The meat of the deluxe large tonkatsu is very thick; you might not be able to bite through it in one go without opening your mouth wide. But its texture is tender with a slight crispiness, and when you bite into it while it's hot, you can see the juices inside. This indicates that the oil temperature and cooking time were well-controlled. The outer batter is also quite thick and crispy, giving it a stronger presence than regular breadcrumbs. It would be even better if it were a bit thinner and if the excess oil were drained before serving. 🥩 It has to be said that the first bite was indeed a bit surprising, but as you continue eating, it starts to feel a bit bland, even with the sweet and sour tonkatsu sauce. Maybe the pork cutlet itself could benefit from a bit of salt in the marination or offer a salty dipping sauce as an alternative? After all, most people prefer their dishes to be a bit saltier. (There is also a version with sauce on the iron plate tonkatsu, but I didn't order it because I thought the sauce would affect the crispiness of the batter.) Perhaps this is done on purpose to preserve the original flavor of the ingredients. Is it worth trying? I think it's definitely worth the visit, as the texture is truly unparalleled. But is it worth spending a few hours in line during your precious vacation time? Personally, I don't think the taste is that astonishing. So, if you're interested, try to make a reservation in advance or visit during the off-season and see if you get lucky. 🎉 tonkatsu tamafuji #HawaiiTravel #HawaiiTourism #HawaiiFood #Hawaii #USWestCoast #HawaiiTravelTips #Seattle #LA #JapaneseCuisine #Tonkatsu
