The Asakura Sculpture Museum represents the pinnacle of modern Japanese sculpture ๐. This building was once the residence and studio of Asakura Fumio, a recipient of the Order of Culture ๐๏ธ. The entire site has been designated as a National Place of Scenic Beauty, "The Former Asakura Fumio Garden," and the building itself is listed as an Important Tangible Cultural Property โฐ. The museum showcases Asakura Fumio's sculptures, such as "The Tomb Guardian," "The Statue of Prince Saionji," "The Kitten Group," and "The Passage of Time" ๐ผ๏ธ๐ค. Most of the statues of Meiji and Taisho era politicians were created by Asakura, especially the powerful statue of Admiral Suetsugu Nagamori. The statue of Prince Saionji at Waseda University was also crafted by him. Born in Oita Prefecture in 1883, Asakura Fumio moved to Tokyo at the age of 19 to stay with his older brother, the sculptor Watanabe Chojiro, and began his journey in sculpture ๐ณ. The following year, he entered the Tokyo School of Fine Arts and started his formal training in sculpture. #Tokyo ๐๐
