Tunisia Trip - Day 1: Cathedral of St Vincent de Paul 🏰🌴(1)
🐬After taking a well - deserved half - day rest, I set off on an afternoon City Walk to Tunis's old town 🚶♂️. Given that I was in an Arab region, I didn't have particularly high expectations for a church in the city center.💫 🎨 But as I strolled along Bourguiba Street towards the old town, there it was, standing proudly at the end of the street, like a hidden gem waiting to be discovered 💎. As a tourist, the first thing that caught my eye was the church's complex facade 🌟. 💧Following the sign at the entrance, I made my way through a narrow alleyway to the side door and stepped inside. The Cathedral of St Vincent de Paul is the main cathedral of Tunis 🏛️. 💧💫Right in front of it lies a small square, which is adorned with a statue of Ibn Khaldun. He was a renowned 14th - century Muslim scholar, historian, economist, and sociologist from Tunis, often regarded as the father of demography 📚. And just across from the cathedral stands the French Embassy, adding an interesting international touch to the scene 🌍. Although it's a Catholic church, its architectural style is a fascinating blend 🎨. 💫At first glance, the two sides of the facade seem to have a Gothic vibe, with their pointed arches and tall, slender columns reaching for the sky . 🏛️However, the three arched porticos at the main entrance exude a strong Andalusian Moorish charm, transporting you to a world of ancient Islamic elegance 🕌. And when you look up at the cylindrical towers, you can detect a hint of Byzantine influence, with their rounded shapes and decorative elements 🏛️. #Tunis #Tunisia #FreeTravelinTunisia #SelfDriveinTunisia #MainCathedralofTunis #CathedralofStVincentdePaul
