Two-Star Michelin Hirohisa | New York's Best Uni Rice π£π
Hidden in SoHo, Hirohisa is a rare gem of quiet, restrained, pure Japanese-style dining. With a Michelin one-star rating, the small, intimate space feels like a traditional Japanese tea room. The soft lighting and impeccable service create a serene atmosphere. I've tried their two uni-based seafood bowls and the A5 Wagyu Ichijyu Sansai (one soup, three dishes). π Uni Don (Sea Urchin Rice) MP πππππ A bowl generously topped with Hokkaido sea urchin, each piece plump and melting in your mouth. The uni is used lavishly, forming a whole layer with varying shades of color (likely from two different origins), indicating high freshness. The soy sauce and wasabi are served sparingly, allowing the natural sweetness of the sea to shine through. Not every restaurant can achieve uni that is both non-fishy and full-bodied β this bowl truly delivers. π Uni Ikura Don (Sea Urchin and Salmon Roe Rice) MP πππππ This dish offers more "textural emotion" than the plain Uni Don. The salty burst of ikura in your mouth complements the creamy texture of the uni perfectly, enhancing its sweetness. Compared to pure uni rice, this bowl is less likely to become cloying even as you reach the end. For those craving seafood rice, this is a fail-safe choice. However, the ikura was a bit too salty for my taste, so I'd still opt for the pure uni bowl. #NewYork πΏπ
