Two Visits to Tsukiji Honganji in One Day – Totally Worth It! 🌟

For this 18-course breakfast, I took a 5 a.m. flight and rushed straight to Tsukiji Honganji after dropping off my luggage at the hotel (because I always fail to make a reservation but have this obsession)! πŸ›¬ πŸƒπŸŒΈ Even though there were empty seats, I still had to wait for a full 2 hours. Don't ask, just trust me – I arrived at 8:30 a.m., and there were guests with a 9:30 reservation, so even though the table was empty, no one else could be seated earlier. The symbolism behind the 18-course breakfast is beautiful. πŸƒπŸŒΈ The name comes from the 18th vow out of the 48 vows of Amitabha Buddha in Buddhism, which is "Never Abandon You." This is probably why it's so well-known and beloved among the Japanese people. πŸƒπŸŒΈA bowl of plain porridge, a cup of green tea, and 16 small dishes. Apart from the pickled plum, which was too sour, and the spicy cod roe, which was too salty, everything else was delicious and perfect with the plain porridge. 🍡 In the afternoon, I went back to Honganji for tea and desserts – a chestnut cake and matcha something (I really don't know how to translate the name, but the texture is like raw chocolate). πŸƒπŸŒΈ They were absolutely divine. Promise me you'll try both! 🍰🍡 PS. Honganji also has hydrangeas, which are perfect for photos. 🌿 #Japan #Travel #Tokyo #Honganji #Tsukiji 🌟🌟🌟
