UK | Edinburgh Indian Cuisine: Dishoom

Recommended by an Indian classmate, I visited this Indian restaurant. Previously, I encountered a long queue at one of their London branches. This time in Edinburgh, we got seated quickly, perhaps due to the rainy weather. Interestingly, a senior who just graduated and moved to Edinburgh from the US had dined here just a week earlier! 1āƒ£ļø CHILLI CHEESE TOAST šŸ’° Ā£6.2 When we were seated, I saw many waiters serving this dish and casually asked its name. It’s not widely recommended online, but it’s a pretty tasty appetizer. The toast is topped with chili and cheese (just as the name suggests) and has a mild spiciness that I enjoyed (though it doesn’t stretch). However, cheese isn’t commonly found in Indian dishes, so I wonder if it’s created to cater to local tastes. 2āƒ£ļø CHICKEN RUBY šŸ’° Ā£14.9 Absolutely loved it!!! The spiciness is perfectly acceptable, and the portion of chicken is generous. The sauce is simply amazing—so delicious that you’ll want to lick the plate when paired with naan. My friend enjoyed it too! It’s a very comforting curry that feels great in your stomach. Highly recommended!! 3āƒ£ļø MUTTON PEPPER FRY šŸ’° Ā£16.9 The mutton version of curry. It’s not as spicy as the chicken and has a strong herb flavor. The mutton is not gamey at all—I, who usually don’t eat mutton, couldn’t even tell it was mutton (I would have thought it was beef if not told). I found it super tasty. If you prefer a less spicy dish, this is a great choice. 4āƒ£ļø CHILLI BROCCOLI SALAD šŸ’° Half plate Ā£6.50 A healthier salad option that’s really delicious. The broccoli is finely chopped and mixed with lots of nuts (like pistachios and sunflower seeds). However, the cilantro is a bit overwhelming, which might not be friendly to those who don’t like cilantro... 5āƒ£ļø CHEESE NAAN šŸ’° Ā£5.20 Delicious and satisfying! It’s a thick, substantial piece that I shared with my friend. Paired with curry, it’s truly delightful. I’ve never had cheese naan at other Indian restaurants—it seems like another dish created to cater to Western tastes (but it’s genuinely delicious!). 6āƒ£ļø GARLIC NAAN šŸ’° Ā£4.20 When I secretly paid the bill early, I wanted to add an extra naan, but the waiter said there was no need to pay extra (my heart melted!). The garlic naan is very fragrant, but when paired with curry, the garlic flavor isn’t very noticeable. So, if you’re dining for two, I highly recommend ordering two servings of naan. It was a very happy and satisfying meal. I really hope they open a branch in New York! #IndianRestaurant #IndianCuisine #UKFood #UKFoodie #UKIndianFood #Edinburgh #EdinburghUniversity #EdinburghFood #LondonFoodie
