Unforgettable—Canada's Top 8: MTL Beba Restaurant
I had to try Beba, the “wine bar destined for a star” that even the restaurant owner recommended. Not exaggerating, it’s definitely the best bistro I’ve been to this year. The dishes and wine far exceeded my expectations. The total bill was $650, including seven dishes and a whole bottle of sake 🍶. Appetizers: I ordered five. Knish – A Jewish pastry with caviar. The pastry has a crispy, oil-rich texture similar to Chinese scallion pancakes, with a potato filling and caviar. Not bad! Montadito – A small crisp sandwich with mackerel. This was incredibly delicious and a must-try❗️. The pickled mackerel brings a slight tangy flavor, followed by a layer of horseradish that adds a spicy kick. The crispy base and lingering fish taste paired perfectly with a sip of sake—divine! Special Chicken Wings – Actually chicken wings with mushroom gelée. Served with a bit of orange sauce at the bottom, it was a great combination—fresh and smooth. The bread was cold, but since it’s a gelée dish, I forgave it. Special Fried Rabbit Legs – Deliciously prepared with no excess fat. The outer shell was crispy, and dipping it in sweet green sauce with lemon juice balanced the richness. The inside remained juicy and tender. Special Bluefin Tuna – I didn’t know it was fatty belly at first, and while eating this part repeatedly can be a bit tiring, the seared part reduced some of the greasiness. The tomato base added a nice residual flavor—quite good. Main Courses, two in total. I was really full, and the restaurant said I ordered the most of any individual in the past month. Sweet Bread (Veal Thymus) – Very tasty but needs consideration. The veal thymus might be unfamiliar to some, with a texture between brain and tofu. The crispy outer layer and eggplant olive sauce underneath might feel unusual at first, but the flavors blend well. The tender texture with the eggplant flavor was fantastic, and I really enjoyed it. Lamb Shoulder – Essentially marinated lamb, rolled and thinly sliced, served with crispy potato wedges and red-yellow sauces. The taste was unique—crispy with a combination of meaty, oily, and spicy flavors. Slight downside: it was a bit salty, especially when eaten in large bites. Still, highly recommended! Drinks: I ordered a whole bottle of Takasago sake, around $280. It’s said to be the only place in Quebec where you can find this sake. Smooth and slightly sweet with a refined sake aroma—better than the Dassai I had last time. Summary: Very satisfied with this meal, and it’s easy to see why it could earn a star. The place is a bit small, but the service was excellent. I’ll definitely return to try the rest of the menu. #Montreal #HiddenGemRestaurants #CanadianLife #MontrealFoodie #Canada #AtmosphericRestaurants #RestaurantRecommendation ### Name: MTL Beba Address: 3900 Rue Éthel, Verdun, QC H4G 1S4 Type: Restaurant ###
