Vienna Local's Recommendation: Huge Schnitzel for Just €15 per Person!
You absolutely must try the local schnitzel in Vienna! This restaurant is a small, authentic spot that my sister’s Austrian friend highly recommends—it’s delicious and truly traditional. The vibe is unique, and the food is fantastic. We originally planned to visit two popular places recommended on Xiaohongshu, but compared to them, this one offers much better value. Four of us ate here, including drinks, for just over €10 per person! It has over 2,400 reviews on Google Maps with a 4.5-star rating. ✨ Recommended Dishes: ▪️ Homemade Beef Soup with Pancake Strips A local specialty! The soup is flavorful and comforting. It comes in a small bowl, so it’s best to order one per person. ▪️ Schnitzel (Original) The pork cutlet is pounded thin and wide, making it tender and easy to chew—crispy and fragrant on the outside. Each main dish comes with a potato side—we recommend trying the fried parsley potato cubes (see image 3) along with some fries. ▪️ Cordon Bleu - Dante Alighieri A schnitzel stuffed with cheese and chili! We didn’t want two plain schnitzels, so we tried this—and it was amazing! The chopped chili inside is quite spicy and really appetizing. The cheese isn’t overwhelming and pairs perfectly with the chili. Highly recommended for those who enjoy spice! If you can’t handle heat, go for the cheese and ham version. If you’d like to try a local drink, my sister recommends Aperol Spritz—a popular Italian aperitif in Austria. It tastes mild but is actually quite strong. 🙂↕️ Okay-ish Recommendation: Bacon Sausage The sausage is huge and meaty, but it’s quite salty. With bacon added, it becomes even saltier—better to order an extra schnitzel instead. 📍 Restaurant Das Käuzchen (search “Kauzchen” directly on Google Maps) Am Diamantengrund, Gardegasse 8, 1070 Wien Note: They open at 4:30 PM—don’t go too early and miss out! #Vienna #ViennaTravel #ViennaFood #LifeInAustria
