Watch The Valkyries At A Free Block Party With Live Music, Games, And Drinks In Downtown SF
The Valkyries — SF’s new professional women’s basketball team — has had a major success in its debut season, with record-breaking attendance for its home games. The team recently unveiled their new mascot, hatching from a giant purple egg in front of a large crowd. If you haven’t been able to catch a game yet, next week is the perfect opportunity. A free block party will have a watch party for next Friday’s game at SF’s Front Street entertainment zone. Friday’s on Front Street is a free block party that happens periodically in SF’s first entertainment zone on Friday evenings. The watch party is scheduled for Friday, August 22, with the game starting at 7 pm . The block party will also have live performances curated by Noise Pop featuring musicians Mild Universe, Animal Prince, and Suzanimal. You can also expect DJs at local bars and street games such as basketball and beer pong. Plus, participating businesses will offer happy hour deals and special cocktail menus. > “The momentum behind Fridays on Front St. continues to grow – and this August, we’re proud to channel that energy into celebrating San Francisco’s newest professional sports team, the Golden State Valkyries,” said Robbie Silver, President & CEO of the Downtown SF Partnership . “By blending the excitement of WNBA game night with music, food, and community, we’re showing what’s possible when public space is activated with purpose. Events like these in the heart of the city don’t just have an impact on foot traffic and boost local businesses – they’re also providing further proof that downtown is evolving as a beloved, mixed-use destination. With thousands already attending this ongoing series, we’re continuing our broader vision to reimagine the public realm as a driver of economic vitality and social connection.” Fridays on Front Street debuted in August and drew over 7,000 attendees between the two block parties. The events are in the city’s first entertainment zone, the 500 block of Front Street . During sanctioned events, like this block party, people 21 and over are allowed to take alcoholic beverages from participating businesses to go. The event is free and open to the public, but you can RSVP in advance to be entered in a giveaway. The Valkyries-themed event is an exciting way to celebrate women’s sports, which have been thriving in San Francisco lately. Bay FC, the Bay Area’s professional women’s soccer team, will play its first game at Oracle Park the next day, on Saturday, August 23. A women’s sports bar recently opened in the Castro, the first of its kind in SF. Check out Fridays on Front Street on August 22, starting at 4 pm. The Valkyries game will start at 7 pm, and outdoor festivities will run until 9 pm, but participating bars will continue to have DJs later in the night.
