Waterloo “Not-So-Great” Food (6) - Qing Shu Spicy Hot Pot 🥘
Last year, I was so annoyed when three spicy hot pot restaurants opened in the plaza near UW (University of Waterloo). The one I resented the most was Hao Wei Dao Spicy Hot Pot—how dare it replace my beloved Yu Xiao Shan stir-fry restaurant! This one took over the spot of Bai Jia Lao Tang, that fake Northwestern Chinese restaurant with terrible noodles. I don’t really care about that, but I still miss their roujiamo (Chinese hamburger)… 😔 You can get a membership card here to enjoy member prices, and every 100 points can be redeemed for 12 CAD. Usually, points are calculated based on the post-tax and post-tip amount, but once they counted it pre-tax—lucky! Heads up: When redeeming points, you have to pay the remaining amount in cash. Pricing: Same price for meat and vegetables Member: 2.69 CAD/100g Non-member: 3.19 CAD/100g I think guys can get full with around 25 CAD pre-tax. Recommended ingredients: Braised beef 🥩 Fried taro 🥔 Fried egg 🍳 Pros: Fresh and diverse ingredients Good and enthusiastic service Great for when you have digestion issues—you can eat fresh veggies with bone broth (though it’s a bit of a waste since veggies are the same price as meat 😅) Cons: Small space—you might have to wait in line or share a table during peak hours The temperature is low (chilly inside) Credit card payments have a processing fee; 5% off with cash #WaterlooFood #FoodDesert #SoloDining #SpicyHotPot #1 #0 #WaterlooChineseFood
