What to Eat in Kampala, Uganda | Maze Restaurant – A Must-Try!

I ate here for two days straight! Truly a hidden gem! 🥹 This is the best Western restaurant I’ve tried in Kampala—no competition! 🥰 Except for the pizza (which was just okay), everything else was amazing! Their portions are small (except for pasta, macaroni, and pizza 🍕), but the flavors make up for it. 📍 Location: Lugogo Forest Mall (not inside the mall, but in the outer ground-floor shops, the last one at the end). Sizzling Pork with Plantain When served, it had a great wok hei (smoky stir-fry aroma). The pork was tender, though the portion was small. If you love sweet and sour flavors, order this! The plantain (a type of cooking banana) was roasted, not fried, so it wasn’t oily—crispy outside, chewy inside, with a subtle sweetness. Way better than fries or potato wedges! A must-try if you like bananas. 💰 Price: 45,000 UGX (~¥90) ⭐ Rating: Orange-Smothered Short Ribs with Chips The tenderness varied—fall-off-the-bone on Day 1, but tough on Day 2. The ribs were marinated in orange juice and red wine 🍷, giving a sweet-sour taste. Flavor was good, but only 6-7 small pieces. 💰 Price: 52,000 UGX (~¥104) ⭐ Rating: BBQ Chicken Pizza 🍕 Standard pizza—nothing special, but decent. Plenty of chicken and cheesy pull 🧀 (though that’s normal for Ugandan pizzas). 💰 Price: 42,000 UGX (~¥84) ⭐ Rating: Pasta Bolognese (Penne) The BEST tomato meat sauce pasta I’ve had here! 🍝 Rich, tangy tomato flavor with loads of meat. Comes with two crispy garlic bread slices—perfect pairing. (I prefer this over creamy mushroom pasta, which sometimes has a funky cheese smell.) 💰 Price: 36,000 UGX (~¥72) ⭐ Rating: ⚠️ PS: They charge 2,000 UGX (~¥4) for takeaway bags—annoying since most restaurants don’t. #UgandaFood #Kampala #Uganda #UgandaTravel #Foodie #KampalaEats
