World Heritage - Krak des Chevaliers in Syria ๐ฐ๐ก๏ธ๏ผ1๏ผ
Krak des Chevaliers, initially constructed in 1031 for the Prince of Aleppo ๐๐๏ธ, was later occupied and rebuilt by the Knights Hospitaller in 1144 AD. This formidable fortress is widely regarded as nearly impregnable. It stands as the largest Crusader castle in the Middle East and served as a bulwark against the expansion of Muslim states during the 12th and 13th centuries AD โ๏ธ๐ก๏ธ. In recognition of its immense historical and cultural significance, this castle has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site ๐๐๏ธ. Strategically located between Tartus and Tripoli, close to the southern coast of Syria ๐บ๏ธ๐, the castle was first erected by the Emir of Aleppo (a title of honor for Muslim rulers) in 1031 AD on the site of earlier fortifications. #Syria #SyriaTourism #KrakDesChevaliers #WorldHeritage
