World Heritage - Krak des Chevaliers in Syria 🏰🛡️(2)
After the prince's defeat, the stronghold was handed over to the Knights Hospitaller by Raymond II of Tripoli (reigned 1137 - 1152 AD) in 1144 AD. This move was likely aimed at ensuring sufficient manpower to provide effective cover for the eastern border of the County of Tripoli 🏞️🛡️. The County of Tripoli was one of the states established by the Crusaders, encompassing the Latin East in the Levant. Krak des Chevaliers was one of the most crucial castles under the Knights Hospitaller 🛡️🏰. Built according to the cutting - edge design techniques of the 12th and 13th centuries AD, the castle was optimized for defensive purposes 🔧💪. It consists of an outer wall with built - in rounded projecting towers and an inner wall that also features towers. These multiple layers of fortifications made it an extremely difficult target for any attacking force 🏹🛡️. #Syria #SyriaTourism #KrakDesChevaliers #WorldHeritage
