Year 6 in Darwin: Where to Satisfy Your Chinese Food Cravings?
My previous post about disappointing dining experiences resonated with many Darwin locals, and I also received plenty of great recommendations. Combining my own experiences with your suggestions, here are some Chinese restaurants that can satisfy your cravings in this culinary desert: 1️⃣ Noodle House Mitchell – The whole fish wasn’t great (and cost around $90+), but the other dishes we ordered that night were solid. A friend recommended the Seafood Fried Noodle (wet) and Golden Prawn—definitely trying those next time! 😋 2️⃣-3️⃣ Golden Star Kitchen – My go-to Chinese restaurant! Their Duck Three Ways, Mapo Tofu, and Fried Noodles are all fantastic. Whenever I’m craving Chinese food, this is where I go. 😍 4️⃣ Hingston Chinese Restaurant – Also worth a try! Like Golden Star, the only downside is the location—a bit out of the way if you don’t have a car. 🥲 5️⃣ Ktong (Palmerston) – So good that I’ll travel all the way there just to eat! Even my parents agree it’s the best Chinese restaurant in Darwin. Must-try: PLA JEAN Barra—deep-fried fish with a rich special sauce, topped with stir-fried minced pork and mushrooms. Delicious and affordable! 6️⃣ Nonna Dumplings (City) – Since I work in the city, I eat here for lunch every week or two. Great value, and my foreign coworkers have become regulars too, thanks to me. 🤣 7️⃣ Makan Stop – Rumor has it that it’s owned by the same people as KOPI Stop. Both are decent options. 8️⃣ Roast & Noodles (City, inside the mall) – Along with Nonna Dumplings, this is another lunch spot I frequent so much that I don’t even take photos anymore. Their roast meats are probably the best I’ve had in Darwin. 9️⃣ Dragon Court – A friend recommended this, saying the head chef used to cook for state banquets. I haven’t tried it yet because it’s inside the casino, and after working there for nearly a year, the staff meals traumatized me. 😂 But if it’s really a banquet chef, it must be worth a try! 🤩 🔟 Other Recommendations (Haven’t tried yet, but trust the hype!): Yummy Noodle – Braised eggplant & spicy shredded potatoes. Diamond Kitchen – Affordable whole fish dishes. Fellow Darwin foodies, feel free to add more recommendations! #NorthernTerritory #NTTravel #Darwin #LifeInAustralia #ChineseFood #FoodShare
