My wife and I shared a meal at this Gungahlin restaurant tonight and we were very happy with our meal. We both ordered the Pho Xtreme, which features rare beef, tendon, and tripe. Served steaming hot, it's a terrific meal for a winter night like tonight. Flavourful and not too salty, which is the tendency for a lot of these types of soups, it had just the right amount of flavour. Served with bean sprouts and basil leaves for additional flavour and nutrition, it was quite the treat.

The beef noodle soup and rice & rib combo are OK by Canberra standards. They ticked all the boxes but by no means gave me that 'wow' impression of the place. The price is also slightly on the higher end of Vietnamese food. There are better Vietnamese restaurants in Canberra but not many in Gungahlin so this one has little competition in the local area. Too bad I wasn’t able to get the name of the guy but he was very accommodating even if it was 30 minutes ‘til closing time, he was very happy to accept me in. Was feeling under the weather and their pho was very comforting - freshest ingredients! But I really have to commend the great customer service 👌🏼

I don't often go out to Gungahlin but I love Pho and so was drawn to this restaurant like a moth to the name. I was a little disappointed to see that the place had all the charm and ambience of a Subway (one of which is located next door, for those interested). But we were there for the food, not the decor.

When we ordered our pho, the waitress advised that they were out of bean sprouts and had not been able to source any more and asked whether that be OK. What the pho? We said it would be OK, but we didn't really mean it. Come on, pho without bean sprouts, really?

We spent a minute pondering this apparent Gungahlin-wide bean sprout shortage and the possible existence of a billionaire bean sprout trader attempting to corner the market. I then walked the 30 metres to the supermarket DIRECTLY ACROSS THE ROAD. To my absolute amazement, about 10 bags of bean sprouts had magically appeared in all their leguminous glory. I purchased one bag for a whole $2.20, returned to Simply Pho and advised the waitress of this fortuitous and quite unexpected change in bean sprout market conditions. As you might imagine, she was as surprised as I was. So surprised, in fact, that we didn't see her again.

The cook delivered the bowls of pho to our table together with two of (and I am not exaggerating here) the most wilted shoots of Thai basil that I have ever seen embarrass a bowl of pho. And I have eaten a lot of pho.

The Thai basil proved to be the proverbial canary in the culinary coalmine as a gastronomic tragedy unfolded before us. This pho, even after adding the Sriracha and hoisin sauces, the chilli, lemon juice and the basil, was easily the worst pho I can recall having. Ever. I could name at least half a dozen places I have had pho in the last few months and Simply Pho is simply the worst of them.

The broth, the key component of a pho, had the flavour of dishwater. Clearly, they do not add enough bones and/or do not simmer the broth long enough. Nor do they add much of anything else to provide any interesting complexity to the flavour. In fairness, the place is called 'Simply Pho', not 'Complexly Pho'. And, in keeping with their name, the pho is weak and one dimensional.

After consuming perhaps a quarter of it, we just couldn't see the point in continuing. This is the first time, in the dozens of times I have had pho of all kinds - from great pho, to good pho, to fair pho, and even to poor pho - that I have not finished my pho. Because this was not even poor pho. It was unpleasant pho.

On the bright side, we had ordered the regular, not the large. But even that was as or more expensive as similar or larger, but definitely better, pho elsewhere. Speaking of elsewhere, much better pho is available at (surprisingly) Majura Park. But the best pho in the Canberra region is still Sai Gon Pho in (again, surprisingly) Queanbeyan. So, if you live in Gungahlin, the Majura Parkway is your gateway to a better and...

My friends and I ordered 5 starters under the impression that they were $6.80 as shown on the menus we found on various websites. That seemed pretty pricey but we were hungry and willing to pay. When we checked after the purchase was made the receipt said the spring rolls and rice paper rolls are $9 each. That cannot be right, for 4 7 inch x 1cm spring rolls, $9 is outrageous. For 3 rice paper rolls $9 is absolutely ridiculous. the menu online showed that the prices were much cheaper by $3. If my friends and I were misinformed because Simply Pho failed to update their menu or if they just priced 3 rice paper rolls and 4 small spring rolls for $9 per serving they seriously need to...

I'm not sure why the other reviews are so low but perhaps these people don't know much about pho! I've ordered from here lots of times and the rare beef is consistently amazing! Good quality meat and the large size bowl is filling if a touch higher in price than other places. Soup broth is thick and flavorful with generous fresh accompaniments. The dine in section of the restaurant is on the small side and takeaway seems popular so I feel they do themselves a disservice not offering delivery or having a website/...
