Very disappointing and an embrassing experience.
Donât support customers with dietary needs. I tried to order scrambled eggs without dairy. The waiter informed that it was impossible to make scrambled eggs without dairy. I didnât understand this and asked him if he could ask the chef please. He said âabsolutely not!â. âWe have lots of dairy free options for you to choose fromâ. I then tried to order the omelette, but was informed that it had blue cheese in it and no modifications would be made. The waiter was extremely rude and condescending so we decided to leave and left our feedback with the manager on our way out.
The manager explained that their scrambled eggs were pre-made and already had dairy in them. I asked why some eggs couldnât be cracked and scrabbled in a pan, he said we donât have time to make individual orders for fussy eaters we are a small busy cafe. We have plenty of dairy free options for you to choose from. The funny thing is that that on the bottom of their menu it reads please inform us if you have any dietary requirements and will do our best to accomodate you. What an absolute joke!
Overall this was a very unpleasant and embarrassing experience and I will never eat again at Stand By Me!
There are plenty of other great cafes in the area that support dietary requirements, I highly recommend:
-EQ Cafe & Lounge -Double Shot -Fox and Bow -Space Kitchen -A Bite To Eat
Ps all these places support people with dietary requirements and they make dairy free scrambled eggsđ
Hi Ben, disappointing reply. Your reply reflects your character and your inability to apologise and to accept feedback. In your reply you said you couldnât âjust crack some eggs into a panâ however you then said you offered me other dairy-free options including poached or fried eggs. As you already stated you are a small, busy cafe that âcanât crack eggs into a panâ can you tell me how you were going to prepare these eggs (without cracking them)?
A more appropriate response would have been: âSorry we canât make dairy free eggs due to being a small busy kitchen, we have some other dairy-free options that may be of...
Read moreFirst I noticed a few chairs and tables out front with blankets provided, remembering it is a Canberra winter. The door is opened for me by a waitress. I loom around and worry. You can't make booking on a weekend, it's 9.15am and all tables are full but the waitress directs me to head out the back and take either of the first 2 tables. Past the kitchen is an enclosed courtyard with great heating. Let me tell you, this is not the most private of places. Tables are shared in some cases and others have you very close to your neighbour but it adds to the atmosphere. The menu is really quite different. All breakfast options sounded amazing. Even more amazing are the daily specials eith their specialty being French Toast. The Chai is fantastic. Nice and hot. Service is excellent! Easy, free parking. All in all it was a great breakfast....
Read moreI have a feeling that thereâs a new owner and probably should get a refund for the fee they paid.
The French Toast is horrid with mesh of incompatible ingredients and stale toast. The Chicken Katsu in the Chicken Katsu Burger was also staled and not crunchy at all. The chipsâ nice though. The Muffin was fine but the Almond Croissant was becoming tough and I wondered how long it has been sitting there. Tastes nice though. Coffee was so so, but still good enough.
Service could be a tiny bit more tentative but this is an encouragement not a complaint.
I donât think the overall poor experience is due to a lack of trying, but they might have prioritised hiring of family over people with more experience. Give it time though things would...
