Went here with friends on a Thursday evening for an early dinner at 5:30pm, and was told the upstairs sitting area was closed until 6pm - probably as they were short-staffed at the time. Not a problem. What we didn't like however was that the restaurant, even though it's a proper eat-in restaurant, had no bathrooms for their clients! This appears to be in direct breach of New South Wales Liquor Amendment Regulation of 1999, therefore I will need to report this. We were made to go across the street to use the facilities of the Sanctuary Hotel on Kent St - unacceptable :-( Apart from this obvious glitch, the food at Prik Thai was satisfactory. We ordered 2 regular sized tom-yam soups, one small chicken kuay tiew soup and a serving of beef satays. I can't comment on the satay, but the 3 soups all tasted exactly the SAME. Don't get me wrong: they were good, just not tom-yam soups at all. Basically we were given 3 bowls of kuay tiew: a small one with chicken, and 2 larger ones with minced pork and pork balls. The only difference between the kuay tiew and the tom-yam was the addition of extra chilli. So not very traditional at all... But they were still tasty, well portioned and satisfying. No complaint at $11 a pop! The service was very basic: we were brought water and glasses, but we had to order at the counter. Payment was required immediately, and we only saw the server again when the dishes were brought to our table. In conclusion: Prik Thai is good for a quick, tasty meal if you're after a cheap eat. Probably not a good place for a date though.. Will I be back? Probably not, as there are many other cheap eats to try in the area, and this one wasn't awesome.
UPDATE Sydney Council was contacted in relation to the lack of sanitary facilities at the Prik Thai restaurant. The Council’s Building Surveyor has investigated this matter and spoken to the proprietor regarding the issue. I was advised that the premise does not have sanitary facilities on site however, they have a designated toilet in the foyer of the building it occupies (86 Liverpool Street). Apparently the toilets are locked and can only be accessed with a key provided to patrons by the restaurant staff. Council was advised that this key had gone missing and, during this time, the patrons were directed elsewhere. Notwithstanding, a new key has been obtained for the designated toilet facilities which are now operational. So please REPORT THEM TO SYDNEY COUNCIL should you be told to use the toilet of the Sanctuary Hotel across the road on Kent St, as they must provide all customers a key to their...
Read moreAn awful dine in experience, as I was served with a food processing problem dish, a unknown plastic in the pork rib soup, which I think that was a problem of food safety.
I hadn't speak with the head of management, but I have asked a staff to tell what I was experiencing, I understand it was a busy lunch time. The staff came quickly, and told me they will change the dish and took away my dish.
So imaging if the plastic is in the soup which prepared early on that business day, what's the meaning of changing to another bowl, and still I felt that they even not changed just removed the plastic.
In this restaurant, payment in advanced is required, although they responded quickly with changing, they had not give me the chance to say no to the dish. I just could not have the appetite to dine in the restaurant, but thinking of payment is made, I had no choice to dine in.
I really felt awful about this dine in experience. I felt uncomfortable and vomited not only because the plastic, but also feeling that the food safety or food handling process is not well treated and concerned, a restaurant who holds a certificate showing that they are safety, but actually not safety.
There are many people dining at that restaurant everyday, the food processing is extreme important especially since Covid-19 occurred. Even NSW Government is helping small business by promoting customer consumption, but the prerequisites was that the merchant is providing a safety food.
Besides, I have not heard an apology from the merchant...
Read moreNew fave Thai spot, for sure! Really amazing service. The group of ladies that were working and served us were super kind and accommodating. The location is next to a lot of major shops and streets, so it was easy to find. Despite being a busy spot (foot-traffic wise), the storefront was cosy and well-designed to really make you feel like you were eating a comforting home-cooked meal. My partner and I ordered the tom yum noodle soup, it was spicy and sour—just the perfect combo! We also had the pad see ew–they were generous with how much chicken was given, which is rare in a lot of Thai restaurants throughout Sydney, especially in the city. And for some freshness, we complimented the two main dishes with a papaya salad. The drinks were stand-out as well, nothing bad to say… Truly! So overall, service, atmosphere, and food/drink quality were all worth it!...
