Intending to check out the Mamu Penang Coffee Stall in Guildford’s permanent Yummy Market, we arrived too late for lunch. Food items were mostly sold out at ten past twelve. Resolving to come back another time, we were still able to eat a Malaysian lunch by walking around the corner to Raina Classic Malay. This simply-decorated restaurant is a popular lunch spot with the local community. The hot bar set up allows you to choose one, two or three dishes ($10/$13/$15) with a mound of coconut rice. Fried egg toppers and sambal with peanuts and ikan bilis (dried anchovies) are just a few bucks more. We tried three dishes, the best being a chicken rendang with a rich, red coconut gravy that went well over rice. The beef rendang didn’t have the same level of sauciness nor the falling-apart tenderness I like. We also tried a vegetable and soy protein stir fry that was mild and enjoyable.

Wanted to visit the hawker markets but they were closed...Had Nasi kandar at Raina classic malay around the corner. Raina classic malay was roomy but very pricey for what it was. I loved the flavours but ultimately it was a drumstick or two and a couple of dry beef cubes...presumably rendang...it was hard to tell as its literally sauces from all curries with the aforementioned and a squid. Salty egg was different and interesting Got a rotti, which I stupidly thought would be a couple of bucks extra, but they serve it with a couple of curry sauces, so it is its own dish, not an accompaniment so charge $7 for it!! It took 10m for it to be prepared? Not sure I would return mainly as its a long way. Even though it was pricey it appeared popular with multiple tables occupied. I will persue Malaysian food but closer to home.

No idea where or how people are ordering the rotti canai and other dishes that they have posted on the reviews. We couldn’t find a menu at all and the staff doesn’t speak English. People where lining up to order what was on display, which was rice and some side dishes. We ordered rice with chicken rendang. lamb, vegetables. That was $20 was 1 piece of chicken rendang, cheap cuts of lamb with full of bones and chewy bits, a spoon of below average carrots and beans. The waiter poured beef gravy over rice after we told him we don’t eat beef. The laksa we ordered had a strange looking & smelling broth with cold noodles, a boiled egg and a garnish of chilli and onion and that was $13. We have traveled to all over Malaysia multiple time, we have eaten at many Malaysian restaurants in Sydney. This is just rubbish and...
