Time of visit: Early morning (7am), Weekday. Meal: Breakfast
I ordered the Giant Duck (effectively their 'big breakfast' option) with a Thai Milk Tea.
The drink came out first but it wasn't what I thought it would be, the description didn't seem to match, the staff were very nice and asked if I wanted to change it to something else which I declined to at the time, but I then looked up the menu and realised that they had two Thai drinks, one which was a hot drink being the Thai Tea Latte, and the other a cold option called the Thai Milk Tea. They had brought me the Thai Tea Latte (well, had put it through the order as that), rather than the Thai Milk Tea that I had thought I ordered.
I mentioned this to the staff who then took away the latte and got me to pay the price difference to the milk tea, and then it came out shortly after.
In terms of the Thai Milk Tea, for the price at the time($9.50), it was disappointingly small in size, and unfortunately the strength of the Thai Milk Tea flavour was also on the weak side. Traditionally speaking, Thai Milk Tea is meant to be a strong tea, and sweet, what I received was very much not representative of that.
The Giant Duck (I requested scrambled egg) came out not that long after, and that somewhat made up for the balance of the rating, it was excellent for most part. Good sized portion for a big breakfast option in the CBD ($25 at the time), two rashers of bacon, reasonable amount of 'scrambled' (really an egg tornado, not what I was really wanting when I said scrambled) egg, a small serve of tomato, avocado, mushrooms and the chizoro ontop of some well buttered toast. The only thing I would say that made this a little bit of a bother was that the cherry tomatoes were very difficult to spear with ones fork as they were still quite firm and plump, and at risk of flying off somewhere unknown if you didn't go slowly and control pressure against the plate rim with the knife.
Well cooked, well seasoned, well worth, except for being a little bit of care with the tomatoes.
It was fairly quiet at the 7am time I went, so hard to fault the atmosphere as such, but it was a bright, clean, well presented space.
Would go for the Giant Duck again, but I'd probably not go for any of their frappe options if that was the price tag for the size, just was not the...

The crew: They are happy, polite and professional. Immaculate uniform. We felt welcome from the moment we walked in. Thank you for smiling!
The food: VERY nice. Hot food on hot plates, well done :) And the presentation is 5 stars. I loved the extra plate decoration. Tasty and portions are just right.
The atmosphere: It's quiet in here at 7am. Mostly takeaway coffees from office workers. The background music is not too loud, so it's a good place to do some quiet work or have a breakfast meeting. And it is warm enough inside to not have your food go cold in 2 minutes. Overall, very comfortable. Oh, and there is a view on Hyde Park, which is lovely, and plenty of natural light.
Cleanliness: It is clean and the tables are not sticky or grubby.
Service: Order at the counter, but the rest is table service. It seems that they usually have full table service, as there is an apology note on the tables: "Temporarily no table service, please order and pay at counter". What a great idea to notify customers of this!
Pricing: Well priced. All prices are going up, so my first reaction is that it is on the pricey side, but the quality and presentation makes up for it. And in comparison, they are in fact very well priced for a café with a view on Hyde Park.
I highly recommend this place, so if you are in the area, walk past the other ones, and come in here, you won't be...
Read moreNaked Duck Hyde Park blends French and Australian cooking techniques with a clever Asian twist, creating dishes that are both comforting and inventive.
Standouts include the rich and creamy risotto carbonara, the tender slow-cooked beef with mushroom gravy, and the zesty lemon cake, which was a true highlight of the meal.
Service was polite, friendly, and attentive, adding to the overall sense of care and hospitality.
