Our table of 9 people was upstairs towards Burwood Road. The aircon was super powerful and many of us that were sitting there got a little bit ill from the overpowering aircon. While we understand your staff tried to explain to us that the aircoin was uncontrollable due to the building it was still unbearable but you should clearly do something about this. How do you expect customers to be seated and have a peaceful experience when the aircon is blasting hardcore. Deceptive Menu - I made a booking well in advance after reviewing your menu and presented this to our group - everyone was excited to have the charcoal hibachi skewers. HOWEVER, when we arrived on Saturday after scrolling through the menu after scanning the QR code, we did not see these items that were present on the website. When we enquired your staff, they said it's no longer available. If that really is the case, then why did you not warn your customers leading up to the day of removal. Note - in any professional business it is a business etiquette to note what is discontinuing and no longer going to be available. For example "menu is discontinuing from XX Date and please see our new menu available from XX date". Online Menu System - Your QR code system is not responsive and the actual user experience is very very disjointed. How are non Chinese customers meant to understand the prompts on the screen? Note that certain dishes like the 'vegetable tempura were not available' the prompts are presented in Chinese and not in English. We struggled to know what was going on and assumed that the order had been placed, and we waited for a good half hour to realise our order was not executed. Also your order system is really not user friendly, where customers can not check what was actually ordered on a consolidated format. Other amazing places do present an easy and responsive tracking of all orders in an easy and consolidated manner. We only know this because a few on our table read Chinese and many of us had issues ordering not knowing what the problem was. Food Orders - Orders which were made were not delivered within the expected time frame nor did it roughly follow the orders when it was made. It was almost like staff were just sending anything that was on the order list while disregarding what was ordered by order time. We do not expect orders to come in sequential order but this was not even the case. Food temperature - There were several dishes which were lukewarm and nowhere near edible. For example, the gyoza dumplings and takoyaki were not fully cooked and we could tell these were frozen and just cooked warm. These things should be steaming hot! Food quality - There were several dishes which just did not meet the minimum expectation. Your so called "Truffle Fried Rice" should not be called this. A more accurate representation is calling this "Soggy rice mixed with egg and shallots". We tried both of your fried rices and none of us on the table could even finish it. It was that shocking. No wok-hay, it was almost like the rice was cooked in a rice cooker and then the other ingredients were mixed instead of actually leaving the rice to settle over night to ensure the rice is hard and then used to cook fried rice. I don't understand how chefs from Asia can make fried rice this bad? It was definitely one of the worst, if not the worst we had in our lifetime. The Yaki Udon was overcooked. It was not yaki udon but actually "yaki udon pancake" as it was overcooked and crumbled. The udon literally melted. I can keep going on but google reviews do not let me write any longer so i will be writing direct to the restaurant so they take more pride in...
Read moreFood qualities were good and tasty and above expectation for a All-You-Can-Eat Japanese restaurant. Very much better than Okami. Service was friendly and helpful. Food ordering was easy though initially food were coming out a bit slow with some orders missing. They were very busy but should not be an excuse for food service being slow. It is their restaurant set-up food service system and when it got a bit less busy, the food were flowing quick and smooth. Something to look into to improve. Overall it was still excellent compared others out in the market. Keep it up and we will be back !!! BTW Do update your Dine-In menu on your site!!!
Reading all recent reviews late March & April 2022, it appeared their standard and food qualities went down the drains. Recommended friends but was turned off due to their bad reviews. Restaurant should reduce the number of diners since majority of the bad reviews were on 1. Food were badly cooked indicating kitchen unable to cope. 2. Food were very slow coming out and totally 'missing' in many orders. 3. Front service staff tried to manage but unfortunately if no food were coming out from the kitchen. The owner should be brave and honest to reply to all reviews, bad or good, for people to understand. At the moment the owner Only replied to very good reviews. In my opinion, be honest with yourself and accept the numbers of diner that your kitchen is able to cope.
Visited on 1st June with friends for dinner. It was a very cold night and a weekday so it was not a busy night. Full downstairs seating and not many upstairs. I am sorry to say the kitchen still could not cope. Noticed quite a few tables downstairs were waiting for a while for food. Eventually our food, very slowly started arriving, the portions were all wrong. We were 4 people and the portion served were for 2 people. It was very slow. Overall the food quality were good and has always managed to maintain its standard. Unfortunately the food service from the kitchen were terrible. Some of our food orders were missing as per normal and is probably the norm for this restaurant. Could it be a ploy to reduce your consumption within the 2 hours time limit and with the slow pace for food to be...
Read moreI like Japanese food and buffets, but unfortunately Tokyo den did not meet my expectations. If your are planning to visit, park at Westfield’s and walk over only takes less than 3mins.
For this review I am going to compare Tokyo Den (TD) to Okami (O) because it’s very similar. Price - adult costs around $43.80 (TD) and $39.80 (O). Kids under 4 eat free while kids above 4 years cost $20.80 (O) and $19.80 (O)
Food - TD offers 50 dishes in the buffet, while O around 40 dishes. Even though TD offer more dishes, but a lot of repeat dish share the same ingredients or food type just presented in a different way. O provides more unique and nicer food.
Taste & Quality - the dishes served at TD are very low quality, poor plate presentation and poorly sliced sashimi. O provides quality food that taste delicious as well as being presentable.
Portion & Quantity - TD offers smaller plates and pieces, which means you need to order double the amount except for the beef dishes because once you have 1-2 of those plates you don’t want to eat no more. Please note: if you order too much and cannot finish, they charge $10 for every 100g! Is it true I’m not sure. O serves the better portions but still requires doubling amount for certain dishes.
Ordering method - TD requires you to fill out a form with the dish quantity, which I found annoying whenever you order your next round a new sheet to fill. O is much simpler, you tell the staff which dishes and they serve.
Drinks - TD does not offer alcohol only soft drinks. O offers alcohol and soft drinks. (Both do not include drinks in buffet)
Service - TD has two levels to serve, lacks staff and serving is noticeably slower. O dining room is larger hence 1 level only. Has more staff members and serving is majority faster and sometimes instant except for some dishes.
Payment - TD offers all kind of payments. What I liked is you can pay with ShopBack with 8% cash back. O offers cash and credit card payment only.
Lastly, the reason why I’m giving 3 stars is because both my son and I got food poisoning. For me it was within 30mins leaving and for my son the next day in which we...
