Surreal Geelong — Restaurant in Victoria

I have been to Doncos twice previously. The first time was some time ago and it was amazing. The second time I noticed there was a reduction of items on their menu so that a lot of dishes are now deep fried and there were also some slight changes in flavour. The crumb on the parmeson encrusted eggplant didnt taste any different to the crumb on other dishes. Last night we had a booking for 5 and ordered our food just after 6pm. We ordered numerous small dishes with a single side of rice. The first few dishes came out quickly and then the food just stopped. The takeaway orders started to come in one after another. The kitchen was making orders for uber eats and other delivery services continuously and was unable to keep up with table service. We received another dish after our rice had gone cold and I then questioned when out last dish was arriving. The last dish arrived at approx 7:30 some 1.5 hours after we ordered. We left at 7:45. Be ready to be told there is no food waiting for you in your name! We called Donco just before 6pm and placed a take away order. We were told that due to the restaurant service, food won't be ready until 7.10pm. As we were really looking forward to having a meal from Donco, we accepted the delay. My husband arrived 7.05pm and was told the food would be ready in 10mins. At 7.15pm, nothing happened and when speaking to another staff member, he was told there was no food being cooked for a take away order. My husband asked for a refund and left. They had taken the money when he first walked in and suddenly, there was no order! Thank you, Donco for ruining our Saturday night in, making my husband drive around Geelong to find us a restaurant that will provide our dinner tonight while I look after our sick baby! Disgraceful. Food was quite lovely and the vibe of the restaurant was quaint and friendly! Would definitely recommend this restaurant to friends for a nice meal as the prices are amazing for what you get. The only thing I would adapt a little is the menu as it would of been helpful for each dish to have a description for what it is. We ordered the rice bowl, and it’s not specified what is actually in it besides the protein you choose with it, so we asked before we ordered. This isn’t really an issue at all but would be a nice convenient addition for customers.
