Our first night in Vienna and we had Italian! We arrived late and we're tired from the flight from the US. We were looking for something close to our hotel, when I found this place on Google Maps. I think it's mostly locals as it is kind of away from the main streets.
First of all, it's cash only (there is a Bank of Austria a few blocks away). Besides a quick run to the bank, it was a great first experience in Vienna.
The staff do not speak English very well..or at all...but I don't expect people to when I travel. Despite the language barrier my wife and I were able to order....and get pizzas that we weren't exactly expecting...but in all of my travels I've learned that you have to be flexible when ordering in foreign countries.
I had the Mafioso (figured you can't go wrong with the pizza named after the restaurant). The pizzas are very large...think about the size in between a medium and large at any chain in the US. The Mafioso used marinara sauce with meat, which was unusual but actually good. Because of the sauce the pizza couldn't really be eaten in slices, but had to use knife and fork. The crust really good with just the right amount of chew and not dry. My wife liked the sauce on my pizza so much that she actually dipped her crust in my sauce.
My wife ordered the "Art de ....." (can't remember the rest. It was ham, onion, and we think white asparagus. It used traditional sauce and could be picked up in slices. It too was very good. But i think we both really like the uniqueness of the Mafioso.
Like someone else mentioned the price was unbelievable...best value in Vienna. Our total was 11€ which was 2 pizzas a beer...the pizzas are so large we almost had an entire pizza of leftovers!
We tried a couple of the Viennese cafes and we're not impressed. We kept comparing everything to this restaurant....lol. I judge restaurants on a combination of tastes and value (with a certain threshold on taste). I would say I would have paid doubled what we did and still have felt like it was a great deal. The flavor was great and did not sacrifice anything just because...
Read moreWanted to book a table several times. First time was three weeks before the actual evening. I called and the waiter asked me what I wanted. So I told him I want to book a table for three in 3 weeks. He told me to call one week before and just hung up. So I tried again to call in the week before but even though I let it ring for minutes several times, nobody picked up the phone. I tried again a second time with a similar result. Cheap or not, good or not, lousy service and no online reservation, not worth the hassle. I was there several times, the pizza is ordinary and was very ok for the price, they had several beers on the menu but strange enough all but the least favorite one where always recently sold out. As a student this could be a thing but if you look for a decent pizza I personally would suggest to look elsewhere. Since I was not able to eat there recently I did not evaluate food and atmosphere since this...
Read moreNice price.. they got us in the first half, not gonna lie. One guy suggested us this place, now we call him a madman. We asked water and he brought us something else: reality is often disappointing.. We ordered two pizzas it just took us 2 years to finally get them. Are we a joke to you? While we were eating the pizzas we just wanted our mums to pick us because we were very scared. I nearly finished my pizza.. am I disable??? The other friend was Italian, a man of culture, he didn't eat anything.. we divided his pizza in 2 parts to not offend the owner, we have done what it's called a pro gamer move. Finally we paid.. what did it cost? All our organs. Randomly there were an hospital nearby: we didn't vomit once out: we saw that as an absolute win. Also das Essen war sehr lustig...
