S+L Kitchen & Bar Abbotsford — Restaurant in Abbotsford

3 years after dining at this location and receiving exceptionally poor service, my wife and I decided to go and try it again....on our anniversary...which they ( the restaurant) knew at the time I reserved a table. Unfortunately, the service was worse this time around....waited for 10 minutes in the middle of the outside courtyard before a waitress approached us, introduced herself and provided 2 glasses of water...unlike the jugs of water provided to other table patrons. We ordered Calamari as an appetizer. Following another 10-15 minute wait, It was delivered to our table from someone who appeared to be from the kitchen staff....the calamari looked like the leftovers from the bottom of the bag, the portion was tiny compared to the price and was half peppers and tasteless (hard to do with calamari). It arrived well before the wine we had ordered. I had to ask for the wine. The original waitress brought the wine to our table, filled 1/3 of our respective glasses and sat the bottle on the table, placing the cap beside it. No ice bucket. Nothing covering the mouth of the bottle. Eating the Calamari with a spoon would have been easier than a fork given how small the portions were. My wife had ordered Top Sirloin steak (rare).while I ordered the pasta. The meals arrived at our table, delivered by someone other than our waitress. No offer of pepper, etc. I asked our original waitress for pepper who in turn said she would get some. Ten minutes passed, we are halfway through our meals when she returns to ask how everything was. My wife told her. The steak and accompanying vegetables were soo laced with salt, we were almost at the point of sending it all back, and she likes salt on her food!....along with the medium-well cooked tough steak. The pasta was good. The server left our table in tears and remained weepy for the remainder of the service. We should of known better when it was obviously apparent that three additional tables were having issues with our ( same ) waitress....from food arriving cold to problems with billing and drinks that were not delivered. We finished our wine, having filled our glasses ourselves throughout the meal. That was the last time we will be...

We recently went to S&L Abbotsford

When this location first opened, the food was exceptional and the atmosphere inviting.

There was a buzz of excitement and it was challenging to get a table without a reservation. It was special for us to plan an evening out to this restaurant!!

We have enjoyed this location since 2018. Even during COVID, we would purchase the Chinese New Year-at-home dim-sum kit and the pre-cooked Thanksgiving meal for our family dinner. We were happy to support the restaurant in this way.

Fast forward to 2023.....

Menu items have changed and some of the new items have been amazing. We were sad to see some of them removed from the menu but we found new favourites. The last few visits have not been as enjoyable.

Changes in the ingredients has affected the enjoyment of the meals. There is less seafood and more mayonnaise type fillers

It is not only the quality of the ingredients served that has been sacrificed.

Management and staff do not present themselves interested in making guests feel welcome or appreciated. Instead of engaging with customers, they stand chatting amongst themselves, making us feel more of an inconvenience.

They used to make you feel like they wanted you to return for another dining experience. There used to be a host/hostess to greet you at the door.

This "do I know you?" attitude from management just further erodes the customer service and guest experience.

This restaurant does not have the same allure as before. They have over-priced themselves in this competitive market. And the quality of the food has been sacrificed.

Customer experience service is no longer their priority. This shift is clearly evident from management right down to servers.

This used to be one of our favourite restaurants to go. The food and atmosphere were vibrant. Not anymore....

While there is little variety of restaurants in Abbotsford, this is one where you will not get your money's worth... both in quality of food and service. But you will get a parking spot.

The experience is not what it used to be. ...

If I could leave a zero star I would. I'm not normally one to complain but my family and I were celebrating a birthday last Friday and our night was ruined due to our experience at S & L restaurant in Abbotsford. The service/waitress was incompetent and ruined the surprise dessert by asking the birthday girl about her cake hidden in the back (we also clearly told the server she did not know about the cake and it was a surprise) Our dirty appetizer plates and side plates were still on the table when we left. Water was never replenished even after asking nicely multiple times. Three meals were ruined, two of them had to be sent back to the kitchen, and one of which didn't get brought back until a half an hour later. The server just ended up bringing it in a to-go container because it had taken so long to be remade. Therefore one person didn't even eat that night. One other meal was completely forgotten and when the server finally returned ot check on how everything was tasting we had to point out the one persons missing meal. After having been there for over 3 hours our almost $400 bill was dropped off without a single discounted item, not even one drink, just outrageous considering one person didn't even eat that night. For the price range of this restaurant you expect great service and food, and sadly that was not the case at all. When we asked to speak with a manager he had no interest in speaking with us and was walking away when we just started telling him some of our feedback. He responded by saying that our server tonight was the worst server in the restaurant and that she is "just horrible" he then said sorry and walked away. I was disgusted that a manager would speak about their staff in such a way, and just brush off our feedback with that response. I live in the Abbotsford area, and have been to many JRG establishments that I love! But considering how dissapointing and shocking this experience was I have told all my friends, family, colleagues to never visit this S &...
