Tarek's Cafe 2 — Restaurant in Halifax

I’m not sure how to start this disappointing review but please read if you care about food safety… I wish I didn’t have to write this since I LOVE middle eastern food, & have been wanting to try this place since it opened in Spryfield but it’s not cheap. When we walked in the employee had zero expression on his face, we ordered what we wanted & then he coughed all over his arm near the food. I immediately wanted to leave after seeing that & wish I had. Another disappointing factor is that they heat their rice in the microwave, you’d think they would fry it how they do the chicken to reheat. The food was a major disappointment BUT I WOULD NOT be writing my review if it wasn’t for pulling a piece of sharp PLASTIC from my throat upon almost swallowing it with the food. Not even much of an apology came out of the guys mouth who apparently is the son of the owner from what I heard from him talking to the next customers. Really wanted to like this place but when plastic shows up in your food we will never be back. This is absolutely unacceptable for food safety.

It was our first time going there and heard great things and the place has overwhelmingly positive google reviews. Only positive thing I have to say is the sauce has a nice flavour.

First bite into my shawarma pita was a chicken bone, chicken was a bit dry, veggies were fresh though!

What really pushed me to write this as a one star review was my fiancés shawarma bowl having a piece of plastic in it. She made it not even halfway through her meal and spit out the plastic and ruined it for her. When I lived in Halifax, Tarek's was one of my favourite restaurants... for flavour, for service, for healthy and well balanced meals and huge portions. ...so imagine my surprise when I found this gem near where I was staying in Herring Cove! Don't let the decor fool you ! This food is incredible and highest quality. If you like delicious, healthy food, kind- hearted humans, supporting a local family business and epic portions of food? This is an amazing spot.
