We long debated about stopping by the Coop as we weren't crazy about the whole "Parental Advisory" theme and wordplay that avoids obvious cursing. That being said, I love chicken and we finally decided to stop in after months of not bothering. And let me honestly say - we are so thrilled we did. We were seated promptly and our server Alex was super awesome. Having never been before, he walked us through the menu and gave us a really, really thorough and honest opinion of everything when we asked for it. He was phenomenal and definitely made our experience that much more awesome. We ended up ordering the Buffalo Chicken Burger (which is nothing like your run-of-the-mill Frank's Hot Sauce-drenched burger), Waffle fries, and Chicken & Waffles. Everything was fantastic. Our only gripe was that the portion sizes were a little small for the price, but the taste of everything made up for it and we still left very full. The pop machine is a huge perk and definitely makes the experience that much better--especially as someone who really likes to drink pop. We went on my birthday which, unbeknownst to us, earned us a dessert for free. We ordered the Chocolate Pretzel Puff Custard Waffle Cone and HOLY MOLY - if the chicken and great staff hadn't won us over by now, the dessert did it. It was massive and absolutely delicious. It is surprisingly cheap compared to everything else on the menu and would be worth every penny (and then some).
It's definitely not your cheapest sit down but if you love chicken of all kinds (grilled, shredded, deep fried), you'll love this. Every ingredient in both of our meals was clearly thoughtfully chosen and added to the experience. Chicken was super fresh (as were the waffles) and even the bun was toasted just the slightest bit to add a little flavour and texture.
Overall, was skeptical going in but was pleasantly surprised. If you can look back the whole "Parental advisory", thing you will love it. Will definitely be back and will be recommending...
Read moreFairly new place in Hamilton and Burlington for all things chicken (and a few other food things).
The atmosphere is, well, like a bar that sells chicken wings....simple, not pretentious - they simply are who they are. Bathrooms are in the basement but there is a disabled bathroom on the main floor. If you're over 6' tall, please use caution in the low-ceiling bathrooms (LOL).
Quick to be seated and served our drinks, same too with the food.
My partner and I attempted to order the Ghost Pepper Wings (which must be pretty popular), but for whatever reason, they were out of Ghost Pepper Sauce (the only reason you only get 4 stars fellas!).
We compromised with Smokey BBQ Sauce and Nashville Hot Chicken Sauce. Now, I am not a fan of Nashville Hot Chicken; it's really nothing more than hot peppers soaking in fryer oil; if you don't know the story about how Hot Chicken started, google it!
However, if you dip your wings into the BBQ sauce first, and then into the Nashville Hot Chicken "sauce," it's not a bad compromise.
The unbreaded chicken is well fried and crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside. Average size for what you'd expect for a chicken wing joint.
The "Routine Poutine" is okay; it's not traditional Quebecois poutine in the purest sense. I am pretty sure the cheese was mozzarella. The gravy is okay, the fries a little limp --- but if you want to amp up the flavour a little, reserve some of the chunky blue cheese sauce that comes with the wings ---- it REALLY makes the "Routine Poutine" a whole different flavour.
Our host/server is also one of the owners, and it's apparent he has a vested interest in having his restaurant a success.
The bartender KNOWS how to shake a shaker for cocktails; a good thing, since the majority of patrons were seated at the bar. Having said that, if the bar offerings are not your style, The Coop has a self-serve soft drink station that has more variety of diet and regular soft drinks - some we weren't aware even...
Read moreThis review is specifically for quality/prep of the food for delivery, and their operation as a food service business.
Group ordered delivery for a work lunch. Orders were simple and straight forward - no substitutions or adjustments were made. We had ordered: OG Coop x 1, Big Coop x 4, waffle fries x 2, onion rings x 1, reg fries x 2, and coop dip x 2.
We received the correct sandwiches, however, instead of waffle fries were curly fries (in bags labeled "waffle fries") and they did not send any ordered dips. Sandwiches were relatively bland, and all bottom buns were soggy even though there was very little sauce per sandwich to boot. Fries were under-seasoned and soggy. Normally a mixup is forgivable, and doesn't warrant a complete write-off of trying a resto again. However, this was our first time ordering again since 2022 which back then, we had ordered quite frequently and dealt with the same issues every order.
Our Uber delivery service was actually great. Timely delivery, courteous, and no signs of the food being tampered with. All you could want.
Now, its not so much that the food was lackluster that is the issue here. What's wrong here is that this restaurant made no effort to communicate whether they were out of a particular item which led to them choosing to substitute it themselves without contacting the customer, or if it was just another genuine relapse in quality control of their services.
For the prices this place charges, and the visible lack of effort in how their orders are prepared/served, the value is just not there. There are far better options at a similar price point here in Hamilton. I will not extend my business to this restaurant again.
The best thing The Coop can do for Hamilton is to disappear and pave way for a new and hopefully more promising business that actually shows effort in...
