Two people from our party wanted to share the experience with this establishment and I was ready to forgive and forget until the response we received from the owner. As a person who works in management, the response is absolutely unacceptable. A simple “we’re sorry for your experience we received a higher than normal volume of customers.” Would have redeemed this experience for me. I would never return regardless but it would have redeemed the absolute nightmare of an experience we had. No one said anything about salmonella but a quick google search will tell you pregnant woman cannot eat raw fish. A grilled salmon was ordered and received raw, our pregnant friend had an anxiety attack. We calmed her down she ate wings instead and later that evening we went to the ER as she couldn’t sleep and was having intense anxiety. I have never in my life felt the need to write a negative review, no one wanted free meals. We appreciate you not charging our friend for the salmon and the dish that never arrived for our other friend HOWEVER you can’t charge them for meals that never arrived or were un edible. Truly we tried to be kind, our two friends left before us as they were angry we waited and paid. We had to tell the server a second time at the end who ordered what and how to split the bills. Two and a half hours of chaos. I understand there was a rush but not until one hour after our arrival when our orders were already in. We documented everything and to go and claim we wanted free meals is so insulting. I paid full price for something I did not order. I ordered a pita chicken wrap and got a chicken and bacon quesadilla with no complaints just addressed the situation with the server and asked for clarification. Had they informed me they had no pita bread I would have ordered something else but it was an hour and a half later I was informed there was no pita bread and I had already received my order. Any sound of mind business owner would not only apologize but offer a refund or ask for more details in an email so they can follow up with their staff and see how to best support them in future. The staff did their best with the cards they’ve been dealt, it’s time to take some constructive criticism and a...
Read moreThis establishment is notorious for not paying their musicians. Stopped in from Kingston on the basis that we were to be paid $200 for our services, which is bound in writing via email. Started our set on time, but it was not busy at the restaurant at all. Everyone who was dining on the patio stayed for most of our set with no complaints, though the venue claims otherwise ("The point of having someone perform is to draw a crowd. We got so many complaints about your 'performance' we lost business."). When we were packing up and ready to settle, the waitress/manager on duty refused to hold up the venue's end of the bargain, claiming "you don't get paid because your music is horrible." I personally think this woman just has a poor attitude and takes her frustrations out on everyone else. That said, I wonder if the person responsible for hiring goes through any vetting/quality control process when selecting prospective employees. Either way, this disregard for customer service and professionalism is not a good look for the establishment.
Apparently this isn't the first time the venue has refused to pay their musicians. It's possible that they rely on the advertising of visiting musicians to attempt to circumvent this payment issue, and post skits on social media rather than doing the actual work of promoting their entertainment coming in from out of town.
Got coffee the next morning, and the owner of the coffee shop, after having heard our story, actually said, "Interesting. That place is usually not busy at all." This is a clear indication that the problem does not rest on the touring musicians who fulfilled their end of the bargain and had been promised compensation for their work.
Also, reading the reviews here, it seems that the responses to the negative ones are full of gaslighting and projection, and don't really address the root of the problem.
I'd recommend that the chefs, who also get yelled at by this miserable woman, find another restaurant to work at where they would be appreciated, and their cooking will not be overshadowed by a very...
Read moreWe were visiting the area and stopped in for dinner. It was quite a disappointment. I should have started putting things together when I realized the place was empty on the night of game 7 of the Stanley cup playoffs despite having a TV and the game on. There was one guy at the bar, the rest of the restaurant was empty as was there patio. The weather was amazing and the place down the street had a full patio.
Only two beers on tap, I guess is fine, but they were just presented as "a lager" and a "wheat beer". Found that odd.
The first shock was how different their in house menu was to what was presented online on their website. It wasn't even close to the same.
We both got burgers. The only option for a burger on the menu seemed to be a build your own style. Mine came with mayo on it despite not asking for it. I really despise mayo... But whatever. First bite, ALL I tasted was burnt oil. My partner had the same favour on hers. The fries were really nice though.
I wouldn't return. The server was really nice which saves this from a 1 star. I believe the locals have figured this out as well, because as I said, place was empty for game 7 of the Stanley cup. I am not a hockey fan, but Imo, that is unheard of for a pub in Canada unless it is garbage.
*edit... Now a 1 star (from 2) review given the owners reply... Literally accusing me of not being there, lying about the flavours I tasted, and telling me the house was packed when my photo shows it was empty.... the photo that also proves I was there.
Hey, just keep assuming every bad review is a troll and not take some of the feedback...
