Myself and my girlfriend had a valentines day date here and this was the worst experience that we have ever had at an "upscale italian" restaurant. ill start off by saying that when we first arrived at the restaurant there was no one to greet us or take us to our table. So then we noticed a table of 3 gentlemen sitting to the left of the entranced and it seemed to us that they were the owners/supervisors so we asked them if they knew where the waitresses or anyone was. One of the gentlemen just responded and said someone will come and he continued with his conversation. Also the restaurant was empty except for the gentlemen and one couple and no staff anywhere. A few minutes after a lady dressed in a chefs outfit and apron came to us and just said "how many" no greeting or anything. I then responded and said can we get a table for 2 please. We then began to start odering food. The food was very low quality, the pasta tastes like chef boyardee and that might even be an insult to chef boyardee. Also there was a HAIR in the pasta!!! And they had to remake my steak twice which had ZERO flavour it seems as if they dont know how to cook steak. I then realized that the gentlemen that we spoke to in the begining were the owners/supervisors. So i signaled one of them to come to our table and he saw me and ignored me ! So then the same lady dressed in the chef outfit came back to the table (she was also the waitress) and i told her about the hair and how we were unhappy with the food and service and she began to argue with us and raise her voice to us saying that "we're just trying to get free food" at this point i had enough and i just asked for the bill (i cant believe i actually paid the bill at this place) i then paid the bill and then the same chef lady started to argue with us and fight us again about why we didnt tip her and i told her the service is terrible and the food sucks.
ALSO THE ONLY OTHER COUPLE IN THE RESTAURANT WALKED OUT AND LEFT THEIR FOOD.

Read moreI recently visited an Italian restaurant with high hopes of enjoying a delightful dining experience. Unfortunately, my visit turned into a frustrating and disappointing ordeal that left a bitter taste in my mouth. I feel compelled to share my negative experience with others, as it was truly unacceptable.
To begin with, the wait time at this restaurant was utterly absurd. My companions and I were forced to wait an excruciating two hours before our food finally arrived. This was an appalling display of inefficiency and disregard for their customers' time. We had made reservations in advance, expecting a smooth dining experience, but it turned out to be anything but. As if the wait wasn't bad enough, the main course, particularly the veal dish, was shockingly appalling. The meat was unbelievably tough and had an unpleasant odor reminiscent of strange cooking oil. It was evident that the veal had been mishandled and cooked with utter negligence. This level of culinary incompetence is unacceptable for any restaurant, let alone one claiming to offer authentic Italian cuisine. To add insult to injury, the salad starter, which should have been served at the beginning of the meal, was carelessly brought to our table right before we were leaving. It felt like an afterthought, an insignificant gesture to compensate for the terrible experience we had endured. By that point, our appetites were completely ruined by the long wait and the repulsive main course, rendering the late arrival of the starter utterly pointless.
In conclusion, my visit to this Italian restaurant was an absolute disaster. The interminable wait, the repugnant veal cooked in questionable oil, and the neglectful serving of the starter all contributed to a truly unpleasant dining experience. I strongly advise against patronizing this establishment unless you have a masochistic inclination towards wasting time and subjecting yourself to poorly executed dishes. Spare yourself the disappointment and seek out one of the many other reputable Italian restaurants in the area that actually care about their customers'...
Read moreAs an individual (Black Woman) deeply rooted in the diverse cultural Greater Toronto Area, my recent visit to Il Tartufo on December 5, 2023, left me disheartened for several reasons that highlight the imperative for inclusivity and respect within the hospitality industry. Upon my arrival, I was ushered to my table by the mature (Caucasian with long white beard) male owner, whose interaction with me lacked the expected warmth and hospitality. Despite being the first to arrive, my presence seemed to warrant only minimal acknowledgment. This initial impression was reinforced when, moments later, my male colleague (Caucasian) was warmly greeted, offered assistance with his coat, while I was left to manage my own without the courtesy extended to others. Following arrival of my female colleague (Caucasian) further highlighted this disparity in treatment, as she, too, received the gracious reception that had been noticeably absent in my experience. An unfortunate continuation of this trend was evident during our meal service. The owner selective engagement solely with my colleagues regarding their preferences for additional condiments without extending the same courtesy to me was particularly disappointing. Ironically, as a professional immersed in the realm of Human Resources, specializing in fostering inclusive environments, it was evident that the owner lacked an understanding of Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion (DEI) principles. This oversight in acknowledging and embracing diversity within the establishment clientele is not only off-putting but also reflects a critical need for cultural sensitivity and training. Regrettably, based on this encounter, I find it challenging to commend Il Tartufo to others. My rating of 0.5 out of 5 reflects the significant shortfall in providing a welcoming and equitable dining experience. I sincerely hope that this feedback prompts the necessary introspection and proactive measures toward cultivating an inclusive atmosphere that celebrates diversity, so ensuring a more welcoming environment for...
