This was hands down the worst experience ever. Where do you I start? I have never felt so unwelcome right from the start. The waitress with long dark hair Claudie is blatantly impolite and literally racist. When asked a simple question if we could blindly take a wine pairing her reaction and response were strong and shockingly unexpected.
Then she served the wine literally below the line. To my question if it was a norm she, again, had a strong reaction and poured it by saying âvoilĂ comme ca personne nâa pas de problĂšme â instead of just politely apologising for her own mistake. The manager had to explain that she probably had her personal issues hence her behaviour. But are we coming to dine in to pay over 200$ bill for this kind of experience? If it wasnât for the managerâs intervention and replacing the waitress we would have left without even touching the food. Why do I say racist? Because I observed her serving other groups of people and she appeared so kind and welcoming with her opening lines and explanation of every dish (which we didnât even have). And of course, cherry on top, she was answering in English (while being a quĂ©bĂ©coise herself) whereas I was perfectly speaking French (just not with quĂ©bĂ©cois accent). Was it just assuming that Asian people donât speak French? đ
Now about the food. We couldnât even finish the main dish (lamb) as it was 100% grease and no meat. The fish was overly salted. The desserts were also left unfinished. Overall, the service is below the minimum standard and food is not worthy the price. Big disappointment for a place that is supposed to be a nice neighbourhood restaurant. Definitely not going back and not recommending to...
Read moreWent there as part of the MTL à table event (38$ for 3 courses including desserts) and added the proposed fish entrée for 12$. I heard a lot of good things about this place but I was very dissapointed. Not sure if it was just because it was for this event but the portions were tiny and overall didn't lead to a good price-quantity ratio. With the food and one 10$ glass of wine our bill got to a bit over 70$ after taxes and tip but we were still hungry even though i am not a big eater and usually feel satisfied with a few small plates. The food was very tasty (apart from the dessert) but it really wasn't enough. Looking at the plates around us and the regular price on the menu it seems like it would have been the same outside the MTL à table event.
On top of that, the service was lacking. We waited about 30-40 minutes for someone to take our order and at the end when we wanted to order more mentionning we were still hungry, they told us the tables are max for 2h and we had to leave. The waitress did try to find us a spot but the restaurant was fully booked and we had to leave hungry.
I really thought I would like this place as I usually love little wine bars like this but really can't justify the price we paid. I think overall it would be a good place to have a drink and a small bite but I don't recommend it as a...
Read moreRating the cafĂ©; havenât experienced dinner service YET:
Vivian, the co-owner at FOH is super diligent and laid back at the same time. You feel at home, yet well taken care of.
Matcha quality is high (CamĂ©lia senesis), coffee beans are good (49th parallel) although something local and of equal price would be better, like Myriade. Baristas know what theyâre doing, unlike most restaurants that offer a cafe setup.
Viennoiseries are from Hof Kelsten TOP! Fair pricing - their stuff is pricey but you get what you pay for.
Didnât try the newly offered lunch/brunch menu cause we came 30 min before it starts.
Terrace is big and in the sun with shade, music was jazzy and fun! Inside is also so cozy and chic, and I love that the large window/wall is partially open when the weather is nice :)
My only recommendation as a customer would be to get Myriade or another similarly affordable Montreal roaster of quality in...
